Amazon’s I Know What You Did Last Summer is the third iteration of the horror story. It began with Lois Duncan’s novel but the most famous version was the 1997 movie. The movie starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillippe as high school grads who cover up a hit and run death. One year later, a killer chases them.

The Amazon series updates the story to 2021 and fans of the film will want to know what’s different this time. Here are four burning questions any I Know What You Did Last Summer fan will want to know about the new series. I Know What You Did Last Summer premieres Oct. 15 on Amazon Prime, with new episodes every Friday.

Who saw them this time?

In every telling of I Know What You Did Last Summer, the main characters hit a pedestrian with their car. The characters debate turning themselves in, and some characters are always there to push for taking accountability. But in every version, the voices of reason are overruled. The group agrees to keep the secret forever, until they start getting notes.

In the movie, it was Ben Willis (Muse Watson) who saw them hit his son. Ben donned his fisherman’s slicker to stalk the hit and run manslaughterers with a hook. Since the Amazon series has all different characters, they hit a different person too. And the circumstances are different, so who has a motive to send them I Know What You Do Last Summer notes?

Is there a new Julie in ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’?

The characters are all different in the Amazon series. There are five new stars and six new characters since Madison Iseman plays twins.

The movie starred Jennifer love Hewitt as Julie, the one who wanted to call the cops. Sarah Michelle Gellar played the beauty queen, Freddie Prinze Jr. the poor kid relying on a scholarship and Ryan Phillippe as the wild child.

Iseman plays good girl Allison and wild one Lennon. Brianne Tju plays social media influencer Margot. Ashley Moore plays Riley, the daughter of a drug dealer. Ezekiel Goodman plays Dylan, a friend who’s pining for Allison, and Sebastian Amoruso plays jock Johnny. Will any of them emerge as this generation’s Julie?

What are they waiting for this time?

Hewitt’s memorable line from the original I Know What You Did Last Summer is when Julie realizes the killer is watching her in real time. She screams in the air, “What are you waiting for, huh? What are you waiting for?”

In the first four episodes, no one has repeated Hewitt’s line yet. Maybe they won’t go there directly, but even if no one says it, what is the killer waiting for? He’s got dirt on the kids. Why pick them off one by one? Well, because we want this to last eight episodes, and also because it’s more sporting to make them sweat. But the killer must have a real motivation and we’re dying to know.

What’s on this ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ soundtrack?

The movie had an iconic soundtrack. “Summer Breeze” and “Hush” were both classic rock covers by Kula Shaker and Type O Negative. “Hush” became a breakout hit on the radio back when airplay mattered. The soundtrack also included songs by The Offspring, Soul Asylum, Toad the Wet Sprocket and Korn.

Who are the breakout bands of 2021? We can’t wait to hear who I Know What You Did Last Summer puts on the soundtrack.
