Is ‘American Idol’ on tonight, March 27? Season 20 Episode 5A start time
Here’s the good news: ABC is still airing a new episode of American Idol on Sunday, March 27. However, it won’t come on at its usual time of 8 p.m. ET/PT. Instead, the Oscars will take over from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. PT.
American Idol fans on the west coast can expect to see the new episode right after the Oscars at 8:02 p.m. PT. That means east coast viewers will have a pretty late night — American Idol Season 20 Episode 5A won’t begin until 11:35 p.m. ET, about half an hour after the Oscars. Thankfully, tonight’s episode is only one hour long, unlike the typical two-hour specials.
Fans should check their local listings to make sure they won’t miss the new episode.
What to expect from the March 27 episode of ‘American Idol’
American Idol Season 20 Episode 5A will showcase the final batch of auditions. ABC has already released an early look (seen above) at one of the contestants, Yoli Mayor, a 26-year old Cuban musician from Miami. She flaunted her songwriting skills by performing an original tune, “Beautiful Broken Things.”
After her performance, judge Luke Bryan told Yoli that she “commanded” his attention from the moment she started singing. Meanwhile, Katy Perry said Yoli had an “amazing texture” in her voice, but she hoped to hear more of the singer’s range.
Katy added that she “didn’t connect” with Yoli’s performance, so she voted no. However, Luke and Lionel Richie both gave yesses, sending Yoli to Hollywood. There will surely be plenty more impressive auditions this evening.
How to watch ‘American Idol’ after it airs live
Can’t stay up after the Oscars to watch the new American Idol episode? Don’t worry; there are a few next-day streaming options available. For starters, fans can catch up for free on ABC’s website. Additionally, those with a Hulu subscription can watch new episodes the day after they air. American Idol is also available on YouTube TV and fuboTV, both of which require subscriptions.
When does ‘American Idol’ Season 20 Hollywood Week begin?
Fans will only need to wait one night to see the next phase of American Idol Season 20: Hollywood Week. During the Monday, March 28 episode, contestants who made it to Hollywood will perform solo acts in an attempt to impress the judges once again. However, only a select group of artists will move forward.
