Is Meghan Markle Left or Right Handed?

In case you’ve somehow never heard of Meghan Markle, she’s the Suits actor who fell in love with Prince Harry and became the Duchess of Sussex in 2018. She spent a year and a half living the royal life during which she gave birth to a son, Archie. However, at the beginning of 2020, Markle and husband Prince Harry announced that they would be stepping away from their royal duties in order to live a more peaceful and private life with Archie, who is now 14 months.

If you’re a royal, your life is never all that private. In fact, issues with the paparazzi and invasive press are rumored to be a big reason why the family chose to step away from royal life. Still, even while trying to live as civilians, they’ve had continuing issues with privacy, as some recent lawsuits, they filed indicate.

With all that’s known about Markle from living in the public eye, it seems weird that one seemingly simple question still remains a bit of a mystery — is Meghan Markle right-handed or left-handed?

So which is Markle’s dominant hand?

Trick question: It’s neither! Or perhaps you might say it’s both of them? In either case, royal watchers have noticed Markle doing any number of activities with either hand, according to The Sun. This means she possesses a rather uncommon trait called ambidexterity. If someone is ambidextrous, that means they can use either their left or right hand with the same relative ease.

However, like many ambidextrous people, Markle still prefers to use one or the other for certain types of tasks. For instance, you’ll catch her using her right hand more often when she is waving, writing, or holding a purse. If she’s using her left hand, it’s most likely because she is playing the guitar or enjoying a nice meal — she tends to eat and drink with her left hand.

Only about 1% of people in the world share this skill

Ambidextrous people make up only 1% of the world’s population. Scientists have determined that in ambidextrous people, the right and left hemispheres of the brain are symmetrical. This is also true of synesthetes, aka people who can experience cross-sensory perception, like tasting colors. Among people with synesthesia, there is a much higher rate of ambidexterity, too.

This trait makes Markle unique among her fellow royals, too. Her husband Prince Harry, as well as the Queen, Kate Middleton, and Prince Charles are all right-handed. Meanwhile, many of the royals are lefties, including Prince William and his son, Prince George.

Markle shares this trait with some famous names … including Kobe Bryant and Adam Levine!

Even though ambidexterity is rare, you’ve probably heard of a lot of people who possess this unique skill. For instance, being ambidextrous is said to have given Kobe Bryant a huge advantage on the court, whereas Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and The Voice is said to use different hands for different creative purposes, according to Ranker. Since ambidexterity has been linked with greater aptitude in both sports and music, it makes a lot of sense that visionaries like these two have that skill.

Other famous people at least rumored to be ambidextrous include many athletes, such as LeBron James, Ronaldo, Maria Sharapova, and Michelle Kwan … it’s clear that this trait tends to overlap with a talent for athleticism! It’s also common among famous intellectuals like Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, and Benjamin Franklin, as well as creative figures like Leonardo Da Vinci, Dan Aykroyd, and even two of the Beatles: Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
