Is Naomi Osaka Still Dating Her Boyfriend, Rapper Cordae?
Naomi Osaka has quickly become a pop culture darling. When she beat tennis titan Serena Williams at the 2018 U.S. Open, everyone, even those who didn’t care about the sport, started to take notice. Osaka is increasingly private when she can be, which obviously means that people want to know more about her and her personal life. Her boyfriend, Cordae, has made it a point to attend several of her tennis matches over the years. Are Osaka and her boyfriend still together?
How did Naomi Osaka and her boyfriend, Cordae, meet?
Naomi and rapper, Cordae, met over two years ago and exchanged numbers, according to GQ. Their first date was at a Clippers game at the Staples Center.
“We were on FaceTime trying to find each other because the arena was so big,” Osaka told the outlet. “And I just remember seeing that there were so many people who wanted to take a picture with him. And I just thought it was really cool how friendly and welcoming he was with everyone.”
At the time, Cordae had no idea how big of a star his future girlfriend was.
“It’s not my sport,” he said. “If you asked me about tennis, before being immersed in it because of Naomi, I could only give you Venus and Serena Williams, you know? Because they’re just a part of the culture.”
It didn’t take long for Cordae to catch on, especially when he began attending big games with Osaka, like the 2019 U.S. Open.
“I don’t know if I ever told Naomi this or not, but I felt really out of place,” he said of attending the tournament. “Like, that was my first time being in an environment like that in my entire life. My elementary school, middle school, high school was 99.9 percent Black. Kids who look like me. It just felt really weird for me being in that space. That was my first tennis match ever.”
Naomi and Cordae are a private couple
Though it’s very clear that Osaka and Cordae are a couple, the two like to keep their relationship private.
“We were dating for almost a year before people knew about us,” Cordae told the outlet. “So we kind of move very reclusively. We don’t really post intimate moments, because I feel as though they’re sacred. A relationship is really a sacred thing. Once you let outside influences get into it, it becomes less sacred.”
Now that their relationship is out in the open, the two are comfortable with posting one another on their Instagrams from time to time.

In August, Naomi posted a sweet message to Cordae on his birthday.
“I always feel so lucky to be in your life and to be continuously learning from you.” she said. “I‘m so grateful that I can talk to you about anything and ask for advice (cause you know I need all the help I can get lol). I love that you lay down and wait for me to go to sleep before you go record.”
The two were also featured in GQ’s Modern Lovers issue in February so they seem to still be together. Neither of them has announced anything to the contrary.
