Cam Newton was selected No. 1 by the Carolina Panthers in the 2011 NFL Draft. He was named the starting quarterback that year and broke several rookie records. He had success with the team at the position earning the 2015 MVP and leading the Panthers to Super Bowl 50. But a foot injury forced him to sit out most of 2019 and he was released by the team on March 24, 2020.

On June 28, news broke that Newton signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots. Now, many fans want to know as much as they can about the man who will be the Pats new signal caller following Tom Brady’s departure. Here’s more on Newton’s life off the field including his relationship drama and how many children he’s fathered.

Newton and Kia Proctor split after he had a baby with someone else

Newton was in a relationship with Kia Proctor, who he was first spotted with at the 2013 Kentucky Derby, for several years. However, in January 2020, reports swirled that the two had split after Newton got another woman pregnant while Proctor was expecting a baby with him.

Sports Gossip reported at the time that Newton and Proctor broke up after La Reina Shaw, an Instagram model and the Queen of the Universe pageant’s former Miss Azerbaijan, had a son.

The site also revealed that the NFL player and his former partner were involved in a custody battle.

How many kids Newton has

Newton has four children with Proctor. Their oldest son, Chosen Sebastian Newton, was born on Dec. 24, 2015. They welcomed their daughter, Sovereign-Dior Cambella Newton, in February 2017. Their second son, Camidas Swain Newton, was born in November 2018 followed by their fourth child, Cashmere Saint Newton in December 2019.

On Father’s Day, Newton posted that he has seven kids. In addition to his biological children with Proctor, the quarterback said he is also a proud dad to her daughter, Shakira, from a previous relationship as well as his son named Jaden and his baby with Shaw named Caesar.

Newton isn’t going to push his children to follow in his footsteps

You might think that being an athlete Newton would want his children to get into sports but he previously stated that he’s not going to push his kids in that direction.

“Indirectly, everybody wants to know how their son is going to do, or try and foreshadow their kids’ lives. Is football just a waste of time? Is baseball just a waste of time? Is cheerleading something she’s really going to be invested in? For me, one thing that my parents did an unbelievable job of is allowing me to choose what I wanted to do, and they just pushed me to greatness,” he told Yahoo Sports. “They held me to a standard of, ‘Well, you’ve decided you’re going to play football, so we’re going to give you every opportunity to succeed.’ That’s all I want to do for my kid[s] and hopefully, empower other parents as well to do the same thing.”
