Pete Davidson rose to fame for his work on Saturday Night Live, but the comedian seems to spend as much time in the headlines for his personal life as he does for his comedic talents. With high profile relationships — and their subsequent breakups — overshadowing much of his professional career, Davidson seems to be taking a quieter approach to sharing details of his love life these days. Seen as a serial monogamist, Davidson has been known for jumping from one serious relationship to another with little time to catch his breath in between.

The lack of new details about Davidson’s dating life has gotten some fans curious about just what he’s up to right now.

Pete Davidson drew praise — and criticism — on ‘SNL’

From an early age, Davidson demonstrated a knack for comedy and a desire to be an entertainer. He started performing standup when he was only 16, turning to the art form as a way to cope with his father’s tragic death as a first responder in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Davidson has been open about his experience with mental illness, and he found solace in the entertainment world both through his own performances and through the work of other artists openly discussing mental health

By 2013, Davidson had gained enough fame through internet appearances to start showing up on MTV, and that’s where he caught the eye of SNL executives. He didn’t know that the show was still on the air and hadn’t been watching it, but at only 20 years old, he found himself taking the stage as the newest cast member. The role has certainly boosted Davidson’s reputation and reach, but it has also come with more than a little criticism. Some think that Davidson is given preferential treatment on the show — which has long been known as a place of tough love for rising comedic stars to cut their teeth. Tensions boiled as Davidson was given more time off than other cast members, and the outcome has often left Davidson feeling isolated from others on the set.

A string of relationships marks Davidson’s past

Davidson has drawn just as much — if not more — attention for his personal life as he has for his professional one. He has a long list of famous exes that sometimes puzzle fans. Davidson’s on-screen persona is goofy and irreverent, and seeing him with women who are considered stunningly beautiful and talented again and again leaves some fans scratching their heads. For his part, Davidson has said he always puts his girlfriends’ needs first and treats whoever he is with “like a princess.” Still, those relationships continue to end in heartbreak again and again.

According to Us Weekly, Davidson has been romantically linked to several high-profile women. That list includes Carly Aquilino, Cazzie David, Ariana Grande, Kate Beckinsale, Margaret Qualley, and Kaia Gerber. Considering that Davidson isn’t that old — just 26 — and that many of these relationships lasted several months or years, it’s clear that there wasn’t a lot of downtime in between the start of each new love. Things have often gotten very serious, and Davidson was even engaged to Ariana Grande before they split — taking their matching tattoos in opposite directions.

Davidson’s most recent known relationship was with Kaia Gerber. The relationship was confirmed back in November 2019. Gerber, a teenage model, is several years younger than Davidson. In January 2020 — shortly after Davidson made joking comments about needing additional treatment for his mental health — the pair split.

As Bustle reports, Davidson seems to be taking an out-of-character break from any new relationships since that split. Of course, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic hasn’t made starting a new relationship easy on anyone, but Davidson seems to be taking this time to focus on himself and his own mental health. In an interview with Charlamagne Tha God, Davidson explained that he split with Gerber because “she’s very young” and he is “f**king going through a lot.” Hopefully, Davidson will be able to use this time to take care of himself before turning to another relationship where he aims to put someone else first.
