Charlie Hunnam fell in love with Morgana McNelis long before he rose to stardom playing Jax Teller on Sons of Anarchy. It has been well over a decade since Hunnam and McNelis, a jewelry designer, sparked up their romance, and they are still going strong. But is Hunnam finally getting ready to take his relationship with McNelis to the next level?

Hunnam shows off ring on red carpet

In 2017, the Sons of Anarchy star appeared on the red carpet for the premiere of his film, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, when he was asked about some jewelry he was wearing on his ring finger.

In the ensuing interview with E! News, Hunnam staunchly denied that he had gotten married and explained that McNelis made him the ring. Apparently, the ring only fit on one finger, which may have been a subtle hint on the part of the jewelry designer.

“No,” Hunnam shared. “My girlfriend did make me this ring. She’s a jewelry designer and it’s a rather beautiful ring.”

Charlie Hunnam, who has been dating McNelis since 2005, noted that he is essentially married at this point. In fact, he has known people who have tied the knot and gotten divorced in the time he has been with McNelis, which speaks to the longevity of their relationship.

The Triple Frontier star, however, did not tease any future wedding plans, so it is difficult to determine if he is ready to exchange vows or not.

McNelis gets bullied on social media

While we wait for some engagement news, Hunnam has never been afraid to defend McNelis in public, especially when it comes to online bullying. A few years ago, McNelis was the subject of some intense bullying on social media after some of Charlie Hunnam’s fans openly criticized their relationship. Not willing to watch his girlfriend’s name get dragged through the mud, Hunnam responded by issuing a letter on Facebook.

In a fiery note, Hunnam asked his fans to stop harassing McNelis and sending her negative messages on social media. He also praised his longtime girlfriend for her genuine support over the years and assured fans that they are very much in love.

McNelis later took to social media and thanked her followers for their continued support. Fortunately, Hunnam’s fans got the message and stopped harassing his girlfriend just because they are an item.

Hunnam gets caught with another woman

While filming Triple Frontier in 2018, Charlie Hunnam sparked rumors that he was seeing another woman after he was caught walking on the beach with a mystery brunette. Hunnam was spotted without a shirt and appeared to be enjoying some laughs with his bikini-clad friend.

At the time, the photos sparked reports that Hunnam had broken up with McNelis and was seeing someone new. Turns out, that was not the case.

An inside source later confirmed that Hunnam and McNelis are still very much together and could not be happier with their relationship. The mystery girl on the beach was a member of the cast and one of Hunnam’s good friends.

The source noted that nothing romantic is going on between Hunnam and his co-worker. The two were in the area filming the Netflix movie and were simply enjoying some downtime between sets.

What makes Charlie Hunnam and Morgana McNelis’ relationship work?

After being with McNelis for over a decade, Hunnam has learned a few things about making a relationship stand the test of time. Apart from getting under the sheets on a frequent basis, Hunnam recently revealed that it’s the little things that have kept him and McNelis together all of these years.

In fact, the Sons of Anarchy star explained how he uses small romantic gestures on the regular, which helps keep things fresh. This includes doing the laundry or grocery shopping when McNelis is away and keeping the house clean.

Although their romance is healthy, they have experienced a few rough patches along the way. When Charlie Hunnam was filming The Lost City of Z in 2016, for example, he went without talking to his girlfriend for almost half a year. The mail in Cambodia, where primary filming took place, was apparently so bad that he stopped sending letters altogether. Luckily, they were able to get past the lull in communication when he returned home.
