The internet is a strange place. It can be a wonderful reprieve from reality, full of memes and gifs, but it can also be a breeding ground for weird conspiracy theories, killing off celebrities that aren’t actually dead, and fake news.

In the latest the-internet-comes-up-with-the-weirdest-things news, Steve Jobs is alive and living in Egypt. Or at least that’s what people are saying.

How did Jobs die?

Jobs rose to fame as the co-founder of Apple, along with Steve Wozniak. He was also the chairman and majority shareholder of Pixar, on the Walt Disney Company board of directors, and the founder and CEO of NeXT.

Jobs was diagnosed with a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor in 2003. His battle with cancer lasted for eight years until he died of respiratory arrest as a result of the tumor in 2011. He was 56 when he died.

Why do people think that Jobs is alive?

Since his death, people have pretty much accepted that Jobs is no longer with us. Or at least they did until this weekend.

Over the weekend, a photo was uploaded to Reddit that showed a man who looked exactly like Jobs sitting at a table in Egypt. Since the photo has been posted, people have been going crazy with conspiracy theories of how the Apple mogul could have faked his death in order to live out his life in anonymity.

What do fans think?

Though the picture may have originally been intended as a joke, users on Reddit were quick to point out that the man in the photo could actually be Jobs.

“I know this is supposed to be a joke, but WTF, this guy looks too much like Steve Jobs to be so random,” one person said on the Reddit thread.

“There’s a conspiracy theory that Steve Jobs faked his own death to lead a simple life in Egypt,” one person tweeted alongside the Reddit photo. “This is a photograph posted this week. I am skeptical that he would do this. But this photo does get you wondering. If it isn’t him, it is evident that we all have doppelgängers.”

Some people thought that the similarities were just a coincidence.

“As you get older, I swear you end up seeing more and more people that look the same,” another person commented. “There is immense variation in nature but we are drawn to patterns. I have done double-takes on people who are complete strangers who look like someone I used to know. I have also seen people and had the distinct thought “wow, that is Bob when he is 20 years older”.

But others are convinced of the faked death conspiracy.

“Faked his death like 2pac (who is supposedly living in Brazil or Cuba)” another user wrote on the thread.

But even if the conspiracy isn’t true, people still want the guy in the photo to at least get a job out of the whole ordeal.

“Apple should hire this guy, bring him to USA and start a campaign that the Jobs is back from the dead,” one person on Reddit mused. “iMalive. And he could fix the keyboards in Macbooks.”
