It wasn’t that long ago that Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle seemed to be getting along so well. After marrying their princes, the women were in a unique position only few could understand and many thought they would really bond over that. But then came the reports of a royal feud and now no one really knows how much they like each other or if they get along at all.

While some royal fans are picking sides, there is a claim that Queen Elizabeth II has done so too and made it clear who she likes better. Here’s what Her Majesty did that could prove she prefers the Duchess of Cambridge over the Duchess of Sussex.

Her Majesty’s relationship with Middleton

Middleton dated Prince William for quite a while until he proposed. That gave her time to get to know the queen and other royals before she became a member of their family. Once she did, Middleton followed the rule book and showed William’s grandmother that she can count on her. The duchess also doesn’t speak to the press very often which has to be a relief for Her Majesty after everything that happened with Princess Diana.

Middleton’s predictability and representing the royal family so well is something that certainly pleases the monarch and why she has grown very fond of her.

Queen Elizabeth II’s relationship with Markle

Markle started dating Prince Harry years after Middleton had married William and almost immediately, Queen Elizabeth started breaking protocol for her new granddaughter-in-law.

Before the former actress even officially joined the family, Markle was allowed to stay with the royals at the Sandringham estate during Christmas. This is something that wasn’t done for Middleton or Camilla Parker Bowles or even Princess Diana when they were engaged, making Markle the only royal fiancée to score that invite.

Moreover, Harry’s bride was allowed to attend many engagements and royal affairs before they tied the knot, which again is usually not the case. However, because the Duchess of Sussex is still new to the family it doesn’t appear that the queen sees her the way she sees William’s wife.

Expert says this proves the queen likes the Duchess of Cambridge more

No one can really tell which granddaughter-in-law Her Majesty likes more unless you’re a body language expert and have analyzed the queen’s behavior around the two women. Judi James is one of those experts and explained that you can tell in the queen’s demeanor when Middleton is around that she gets along with her more like a good friend.

“Kate was always a slow but steady integrator into the royal firm and her slightly traditional approach, making very few if any ripples in continuity, does seem to have resonated with the queen, who increasingly appears to treat her as a friend as well as a daughter-in-law,” James told The Express, adding that “Like the queen, Kate is an adept ‘masker,’ using body language techniques that appear to keep her inner feelings hidden.”

She continued, “Both women have perfected a social smile and non-verbal traits that ideal for the job they do but without encouraging any frenzied interest from the public. You rarely if ever see either woman look anything other than pitch-perfect so we assume their lives are, too.

“The Queen’s sudden broad and authentic-looking smile said it all at the Chelsea Flower Show this week: it appeared from nowhere as she caught sight of Kate approaching, registering instant warmth for the future queen, while Kate’s part-smile part-laugh response showed her genuine excitement at hosting her grandmother-in-law.”
