Tyler Perry is not married but he has a longtime girlfriend
Perry’s girlfriend is a model named Gelila Bekele, whom he began dating in 2009.
Bekele was born in Ethiopia, and she began modeling in 2006. She was signed to Ford Models and subsequently appeared in campaigns for brands like Michael Kors, L’Oreal, Tory Burch, and Pantene.
Aside from modeling, Bekele is a humanitarian as well as a documentary filmmaker. She is passionate about advocating for girls’ rights in Ethiopia and has made short films focusing on this issue.
Bekele also published a book called Guzo! in 2018 about the beauty of rural Ethiopian women.
Perry and Bekele met in 2007 at a Prince concert. The couple if often very private about their relationship, though it has been said that they were on-and-off a few times.
Tyler Perry received the news that his girlfriend was pregnant over Facetime
A few years ago, Perry received the news that he would become a father over Facetime.
“I get a FaceTime call and she’s holding up the pregnancy stick,” he shared on an episode of The Jess Cagle Interview. “I’m like, ‘I guess this is happening.'”
It’s also interesting that he got the news from his girlfriend at the same place where he found out another life-changing information years ago.
Perry revealed: “I was in the very arena that I had played and I got the test results back — the test saying my father wasn’t my father.”
Tyler Perry has one child with his girlfriend
In November 2014, Perry and Bekele welcomed a child together: a son named Aman.
Despite the fact that Perry is a famous Hollywood star, fans will not get to see that many pictures of Aman. The actor and his girlfriend are adamant about not having unnecessary attention put on their little son.
“I know there are no pictures of him, but that’s not something we do,” Perry once said. “We’re not the kind of parents — my son’s not famous. We’re trying very hard to keep him protected so that he can know who he is before he gets into the crazy bull crap of this social media world.”
Perry has a huge net worth, though he has also shared that when his son is older, he will have to find a job and work hard, not being “one of those kids sitting around here with their hand out driving this car and that car and living rich.”
However, it will be a while before Aman is old enough to work. Perry’s son is turning five years old this year, though he still does not understand much about what his father does for a living.
“He’s just learning to understand what ‘cut’ and ‘action’ are, so he has been saying ‘cut’ and ‘action’ on set,” Perry revealed. “He doesn’t know what I do… I want him to be as normal as he can as a kid… He is starting to ask questions now that are making me go, ‘You are paying attention.'”
Aside from that, it seems that Aman is just interested in kids’ things for now. Perry once said that Aman is obsessed with Paw Patrol and the family can never take a break from the Nickelodeon show.
