YouTuber Jaclyn Hill Responds To Fans Bashing Her Cosmetics Line
It wasn’t too long ago that the Internet was completely losing its minds over Jaclyn Hill launching her very own cosmetics line. The 28-year-old influencer has made a name for herself on both Instagram and YouTube by posting detailed makeup tutorials and beauty videos. Over the years, she managed to gain the attention of brands like Morphe Cosmetics and BECCA cosmetics and put out successful collaborations with them.
With over 6 million fans on Instagram and nearly 6 million on YouTube, she had a massive fan base to support her products and because of this, many of her products sold out within minutes of the launch. Unfortunately, the makeup is falling very short of expectations, and now Hill is feeling the heat.
Consumers who purchased the influencer’s lipsticks quickly began to complain about a myriad of issues. From lumpy textures, to crumbling products, to receiving lipsticks with small bumps, many fans reported a whole host of damaged products. But perhaps the most concerning of all the issues were the people who reported that their lipsticks arrived with what looked like tiny hairs on them.
Of course, in the social media age, one complaint posted online can compound and lead to hundreds in a matter of minutes. While some customers were disappointed, chalking the hairs up to lint or other fibers, others were completely disgusted and posted videos that showed them pulling long strands out of their Jaclyn Cosmetics lipsticks.
Still, some people were unsure if this was a massive issue or if it was just an exaggeration made by a few customers that had been affected. Determined to get to the bottom of the situation, another beauty YouTuber (Raw Beauty Kristi) did a full-scale review of the entire collection. In the review, Kristi went so far as to pull out a microscope to inspect the hairs that were embedded into her products. Following this in-depth review, she ruled that the rumors were unfortunately very true.
“I noticed that what people were saying was true, that there were some issues with the outer appearance of the actual lipstick themselves. Upon further inspection, I noticed fibers, hairs, beads, and pitting in a bunch of the lipsticks,” she said. After uploading the video, she also posted a picture showing one of the affected lipsticks with the caption “All I can say is WTF.”
For her part, Hill has addressed some of the concerns with her lipsticks, citing quality control issues in her factories. The 28-year old took to Twitter to retweet Kristi’s image and make the following statement. “If any of you are receiving lipsticks like this…. please know that this is NOT hair! My factory used brand new white gloves to do quality control & they shed all over my product. We switched to rubber gloves 2 days ago & will make sure this never happens again.”
Still, plenty of consumers were hesitant to accept or even believe Hill’s claims. Many felt that the influencer should have done her due diligence, particularly since the launch had been years in the making and because Hill stressed the importance of waiting to release them until they were “perfect.” Another fan noted that she worked in a factory and cotton gloves were not allowed in cosmetics labs. Though Hill did not specify that cotton gloves were used, it didn’t stop some consumers from believing that her statement didn’t add up.
A hairy situation
Amidst all the drama and backlash, Hill has apologized and ensured fans that she will address all the issues as soon as she has the necessary information. She also has been candid about letting customers know that they will be refunded for any contaminated product. We can only hope that she does so sooner, rather than later. Only time will tell if her fans will be willing to give her cosmetics line a second chance.
