Jane Krakowski is best known for her work on 30 Rock. Years before the comedy series debuted on NBC, Krakowski was up for the role in another famed NBC product. She, like so many other actors, auditioned for Friends. While she ultimately didn’t make the cut, Krakowski believes the right actors landed the roles. She also has a theory about why so many famous faces auditioned for the series.

Jane Krakowski auditioned for Friends. She’s been open about her attempt to land the role of Rachel Green in the iconic 1990s sitcom. Krakowski is far from the only star who tried out for the show and was ultimately passed up. Over the years, dozens of Hollywood’s best and brightest have revealed that they auditioned to be a part of the cast.

Leah Remini, famed for her work on King of Queens, spoke about her audition in her book, Troublemaker. Tiffani Thiessen auditioned for the role of Rachel, just like Krakowski. During an interview for SiriusXM, she revealed that she was “too young” for the part. Thiessen is five years younger than Aniston.

Nancy McKeon, best known for her role in The Facts of Life, was in the running for the part of Monica Geller. It came down to McKeon and Courteney Cox. Cox won out. Jon Cryer, Eric McCormack, and Vince Vaughn auditioned for various roles, too.

The Friends audition process was legendary. If nothing else, the series was unique in the number of eventual stars that attempted to land the show’s various roles. Jane Krakowski has a theory about why so many different people auditioned for the series.

In an interview for Entertainment Tonight, Krakowski said the Friends pilot was the “it” script of that year. Everyone in the general age group had seen the script. The pilot was as good as everyone thought it would be. Krakowski’s recollection explains why so many people were clamoring to win a spot on the cast.

Krakowski isn’t salty about being passed up for the role of Rachel, though. Neither are most stars who auditioned for the series. The 30 Rock star told Entertainment Tonight that she thinks the right actors ended up in their roles. She said that Friends was cast “absolutely perfectly.”
