Jay-Z and Jack White seem like two artists who likely wouldn’t have much musical crossover; Hov rose to fame as one of New York’s most iconic rappers, while White led the popular rock band The White Stripes for years. But it may surprise you that the two once worked on songs together — and you might be hearing some of them soon enough.

Jay-Z and Jack White worked together on songs

In April 2022, White sat down with Zane Lowe for an Apple Music interview about his music and much more. When Lowe asked him to clear up a rumor about him and Jay-Z having some “heat” in the vault, White was blunt with his answer.

“That’s true, but it’s not me who doesn’t finish stuff. So it’s, uh…I’m not that guy. No, I’m just teasing,” he said honestly. “But I’m more the personality, like, ‘I’ll be there tomorrow,’ you know. So it’s different working styles.”

Jack White would like to release some of their songs together

White went on to say that some of the songs that he made with Jay-Z would likely be released at some point in the future. “Some of that stuff I think will see the light of day when those guys aren’t busy with other projects and stuff,” he said.

White went on to describe the experience of being in the studio with Hov and his unique style of recording. “It’s so different, you know, because when I went into the studio with him, there was just one microphone which is, I kind of was [like], ‘Whoa, what? Where are the other microphones?’” he recalled.

“So Jay was learning about the way I did it and I was learning about the way he did it,” he went on. “I just like seeing anybody use a method. If you see anyone using any method, it’s really, really interesting.”

Jack White was featured on a hit Beyoncé song

Considering White’s history with the Carter family, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Jay-Z and White worked on music together.

In 2016, White was featured as a vocalist as well as a songwriter and producer on Beyoncé’s song “Don’t Hurt Yourself.” The fiery track from her smash album Lemonade, Beyoncé and White accurately capture Beyoncé’s rage toward Jay-Z after discovering his infidelity.
