Jennifer Aniston rose to fame in the 1990s as one of the main actors on Friends. Since then, fans and the media have been extremely interested in her personal life.

Aniston has been in some high-profile relationships, though at the age of 52, she famously does not have kids. In fact, Aniston once shared that having kids seems like a “frightening” prospect to her.

Jennifer Aniston recently shut down rumors of her adopting kids

Aniston has dealt with a lot of pregnancy rumors throughout her career. Recently, though, Aniston made headlines thanks to adoption rumors.

Closer reported that Aniston was in the process of adopting a child from Mexico, and the adoption would be finalized in June. According to the outlet, Aniston also shared the news with her co-workers on Friends.

However, Aniston’s rep shut down the rumors. The rep told E! News, “The story is a fabrication and false.”

Jennifer Aniston has called out the media’s obsession with her having kids

Aniston has spent much of her middle age navigating people’s obsession with her family planning. She even addressed this obsession a few times.

For example, in 2016, she wrote an essay for Huffpost after a month of rumors about her being pregnant.

“This past month in particular has illuminated for me how much we define a woman’s value based on her marital and maternal status,” Aniston said. “The sheer amount of resources being spent right now by press trying to simply uncover whether or not I am pregnant (for the bajillionth time… but who’s counting) points to the perpetuation of this notion that women are somehow incomplete, unsuccessful, or unhappy if they’re not married with children.”

In the essay, she also urged reporters to dedicate time writing about other issues around the world instead of her personal life.

“In this last boring news cycle about my personal life there have been mass shootings, wildfires, major decisions by the Supreme Court, an upcoming election, and any number of more newsworthy issues that ‘journalists’ could dedicate their resources towards,” Aniston said.

Speaking to InStyle in 2018, Aniston also reiterated her point: “There is a pressure on women to be mothers, and if they are not, then they’re deemed damaged goods. Maybe my purpose on this planet isn’t to procreate. Maybe I have other things I’m supposed to do?”

Aniston has not shared why she does not have kids—it is, after all, a personal decision for many people. However, once told Elle that having kids seems “quite honestly, kind of frightening.”

“Some people are just built to be wives and have babies,” she said. “I don’t know how naturally that comes to me.”

Aniston, who is one of the most successful actors in Hollywood, also noted that, when the tabloid obsesses over her marital status and motherhood status, it downplays “everything I have succeeded at, and that I have built and created.”
