Jennifer Lawrence has been back in the news as of late. The Oscar-winning actor just welcomed her first baby with her husband, Cooke Maroney. Furthermore, she recently returned to acting, starring in her first film in years. Prior to promoting Don’t Look Up, the new mom had all but vanished from the public eye. During that time, she had a lot of time to live a normal life out of the spotlight and think about her life and her career.

Jennifer Lawrence’s acting career began at a very young age

Lawrence has been famous since her teenage years. Though she began her acting career in TV, she quickly became an indie darling. Her performance in Winter’s Bone earned her critical acclaim and her first Oscar nomination. From there, she would become a mainstream success, starring in films like X-Men: First Class, The Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook, and American Hustle.

The ‘Don’t Look Up’ star thinks she’d make a great housekeeper if she ever quit acting

Because the actor accrued so much fame and success, many people were surprised when she put her career on hiatus. And though she’s since returned to acting, the Kentucky native has an idea of what she’d do if she were to leave the entertainment industry for good. In an interview with The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Red Sparrow star was asked what her backup plan was if she ever decided to quit acting. In true Lawrence fashion, she gave an unexpected answer.

“I think I would be a really good housekeeper,” Lawrence revealed. “I really do. No, I really do. No, I mean, I make a mess, but I am really good at cleaning it up. And I can, like, attack a mess. Kitchens, bathrooms, I mean most of the time the kitchen is more [impressive]. I listen to murder [podcasts] and I clean.”

Why did Lawrence take a break from her career in entertainment?

Since Lawrence hasn’t given up acting for good, it’s unlikely that she’ll be cleaning anyone’s house but her own. But why did she take a break from acting to begin with? The Passengers star has always been candid about just how much she enjoys acting, so it was an unexpected move. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Lawrence clarified her decision to put her career on hold.

“I was not pumping out the quality that I should have,” Lawrence shared. “I just think everybody had gotten sick of me. I’d gotten sick of me. It had just gotten to a point where I couldn’t do anything right. If I walked a red carpet, it was, ‘Why didn’t she run?’… I think that I was people-pleasing for the majority of my life. Working made me feel like nobody could be mad at me: ‘Okay, I said yes, we’re doing it. Nobody’s mad.’ And then I felt like I reached a point where people were not pleased just by my existence. So that kind of shook me out of thinking that work or your career can bring any kind of peace to your soul.”
