Jennifer Lawrence returns to making movies with ‘Don’t Look Up’

For her part, Lawrence was excited to get back to work. After years of making multiple films a year, she took some time off. Don’t Look Up cements Lawrence’s return to Hollywood and is the first film she’s released since 2019. The movie promises to show fans a new side of the Joy actor as it marks her very first comedy.

But just because the Oscar-winning actor was excited to make the film doesn’t mean she was without her fears. While she didn’t have to go through demanding physical training or learn to skin a squirrel, Don’t Look Up wasn’t without its challenges. Funnily enough, one of Lawrence’s biggest challenges was trying not to irritate her fellow castmate, the legendary Streep.

Lawrence calls annoying Meryl Streep her worst nightmare

“My biggest concern was I did not want to annoy Meryl Streep,” Lawrence shared in an interview with Vanity Fair. “That’s my worst nightmare. So, I will only speak if spoken to, and I will be the least annoying person in the room.”

In the aforementioned interview, Adam McKay, who directed Don’t Look Up, corroborated Lawrence’s feelings about not wanted to annoy Streep. “She just kept saying, ‘I’m going to be quiet. I won’t speak.’ Meryl Streep shows up and Jen comes over to me like she’s a 12-year-old and is like, ‘What do I say? What do I do?’”

Did ‘The Hunger Games’ actor ever get over her fear of annoying Streep?

Though Lawrence’s nerves got the best of her at first, she and Streep eventually struck up a rapport. The pair ended up chatting about listings on the popular real estate website, Zillow. And while Streep is a legendary actor herself, she had only the best things to say about the talents of her Don’t Look Up castmates.

“She is a bold and unselfconscious actress—someone whose gift is alive on her skin and in her being,” Streep shared about Lawrence. “In that, she is different from Leo, for whom the struggle is part of the job, who relishes wrestling with it, and whose work is serious and analytic and intense. She spins it out of the air in the room. I am sort of in awe of both of them.”

When does ‘Don’t Look Up’ premiere on Netflix?

We’re sure that Streep’s high praise will entice more viewers to watch the upcoming films. Don’t Look Up premieres on Netflix on December 10.
