Jeremy Renner is going through a divorce from ex-wife Sonni Pacheco. Recently, Pacheco came out with shocking allegations against the Avengers star.

Renner, who plays Hawkeye in the MCU, has some more work lined up with Marvel. In light of the recent allegations, fans are rightfully wondering if Renner’s career and character are at risk.

What is Jeremy Renner accused of?

Renner and Pacheco share a 6-year-old daughter: Ava. The two married in early 2014 only to split later that year.

Pacheco recently came out claiming Renner threatened to kill her, TMZ reports. She notes one incident when Renner allegedly put a gun in his mouth and shot to the ceiling in the presence of their young daughter. The Canadian actress also accused Renner of abusing drugs and leaving cocaine in out in the bathroom, within reach of their daughter.

How has Jeremy Renner responded?

As expected, there’s an adamant “he said, she said” ping-pong match going on with the accusations. Renner’s attorney has responded to media outlets.

“The well-being of his daughter Ava has always been and continues to be the primary focus for Jeremy,” his lawyer said to PEOPLE. “This is a matter for the court to decide. It’s important to note the dramatizations made in Sonni’s declaration are a one-sided account made with a specific goal in mind.”

Jeremy Renner’s controversial past

Renner is not immune to controversy. Fans were quick to point out problematic comments made by the actor in the past.

For instance, while on a press tour of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Renner — along with Chris Evans — were accused of slut-shaming Black Widow. They called Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff a “slut” and a “complete whore.” Renner later said he was “just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”

It doesn’t end there. Renner once used a slur for transvestites, crudely commented about Jennifer Lopez’s “globes” at the Golden Globe Awards, and has defended Neo Ned on several occasions.

Will Jeremy Renner be dropped by Marvel?

Many rumors have floated around about Renner possibly playing Hawkeye in a Disney+ series. None of this is officially confirmed yet, and we wonder if it’s going to be canceled now due to these new domestic allegations.

The original intention for the Hawkeye series was to make it temporary anyway. It was supposed to be a torch-pass to (ironically) a woman named Kate Bishop who assumes the role of Hawkeye in the comic books.

Since there’s an assumption Renner can’t seem to get along with all women, having him pass on Hawkeye to a woman is certainly an eerie parallel. Whatever the truth really is, we can only hope he finds a stable family life/relationship before moving on with Hollywood. Without a proper support base at home, an acting career will turn more than a little volatile, with or without Marvel in your life.
