Jessica Chastain has enjoyed the reviews of her performances and the success of her recent film, The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Given the star’s background and acting career, she is pretty much used to taking on roles that might otherwise seem tough to the ordinary person. However, Chastain isn’t ready to compromise on one thing, singing, and would “rather do full nudity than sing” on camera.

Chastain attended Juilliard under a scholarship granted by Robin Williams. The star spent most of her first year at the prestigious acting school suffering from anxiety but the production of The Seagull during her second year helped boost her confidence.

After graduating from Juilliard, she signed on to a talent holding deal that forced her to relocate to LA. She had problems finding work but made her TV debut in the pilot of Dark Shadow in 2004 as Carolyn Stoddard. The WB, however, never picked the series up.

Her next role in the medical drama ER, led her to get typecast as a patient with mental illnesses and landed roles as an accident victim. She, however, had a few guest roles in projects like Veronica Mars, Blackbeard, and Close to Home.

In 2008, she landed the title role in the drama Jolene based on Dolly Parton’s song of the same name. The star’s performance earned her raving reviews from critics who lauded her performance. In 2011, Chastain landed six roles in film, including Take Shelter: The Tree of Life, starring opposite Sean Penn and Brad Pitt.

She also appeared in The Help, which helped her gain international recognition. The role also earned her an Academy Award nomination. In 2012, Chastain made her way into Time’s 100 Most Influential People in The World list. In 2013, she won a Golden Globe award and landed another Academy Award nomination for her role in Zero Dark Thirty.

The star has many feathers in her cap, including commercially successful roles like It: Chapter Two, Interstellar, and steady performances in dramas such as Molly’s Game and A Most Violent Year. She has also gained critical acclaim with her performance in The Eyes of Tammy Faye.

Jessica Chastain would rather do nude scenes than sing

Chastain recently went on The Late Late Show with James Corden to talk about her career and production, The Eyes of Tammy Faye. During the interview, Corden complimented Chastain for her singing voice, but the 44-year-old admitted she wasn’t a fan of singing on camera.

She said, “I would rather do full nudity than sing a song. I felt so embarrassed and so just completely out of my element and out of my comfort zone.” Chastain noted that her role in the movie challenged her as the real-life Tammy Faye “was so confident from the first note,” saying it was “beyond anything I’ve ever been comfortable with.”

While playing Tammy Faye, Chastain had to go out of her comfort zone as the real-life person was known for her singing chops. This meant that the star had to put her qualms aside to portray the character down to the last detail effectively.

However, it isn’t the last time viewers will get more of Chastain’s vocals. During her appearance on the talk show, Chastain revealed that she has an upcoming role that will push her further. Chastain is set to play country singer Tammy Wynette of the TV series George and Tammy.

She said, “We’ve got 30 songs we’re singing so it’s no joke,” but mentioned that she would be “drinking a lot of bourbon” to get over her nerves. Buzzfeed reports that Chastain has been working with a vocal coach since March 2021.
