This summer, we’ve learned that many of our favorite celebrities are dirty, for lack of a better word. Over the last few weeks, many stars have come forward, revealing their not so hygienic ways with the public. Though many of us are watching in horror as celebrities share their uncleanly habits, this isn’t the first time A-listers have gotten candid about their hygiene.

Take singer/ actor Jessica Simpson for instance. A few years back, she made a rather shocking revelation about her dental care, sharing that she only brushes her teeth three times a week.

Jessica Simpson doesn’t like brushing her teeth more than she needs to

Jessica Simpson has a dazzling white smile many would love to have. While one might think that she has an extensive oral care routine, it turns out that the fashion designer doesn’t do much to keep her teeth sparkling.

While appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2010, Simpson admitted that she only brushes her teeth “maybe three times a week.”

When asked why she isn’t regular teeth brusher, Simpson gave a somewhat unexpected — and weird — answer.

“Because my teeth are so white and I don’t like them to feel too slippery,” Simpson explained. “My lips just slide all over the place….I can’t catch up with my mouth. I need a little coating…. a little plaque.”

Jessica Simpson insists that she keeps her teeth clean

Though she doesn’t brush her teeth daily, Jessica Simpson said she still keeps her mouth squeaky clean.

“I do use Listerine and I do floss every day,” the hitmaking singer told Ellen DeGeneres. “But I don’t brush them every day.”

Instead of brushing, Simpson will “use a shirt or something” to scrub her chompers clean, which she said is pretty effective.

“I know it’s gross but I always have fresh breath,” she insisted. “It’s really weird but I have great breath.”

Simpson’s interview with DeGeneres wasn’t the first time she had talked about her brushing habits.

A few months before the interview, Simpson revealed this fact about herself at the iHeartradio presents an Evening with Jessica Simpson in New York, sharing that she still has “strong” teeth despite her lack of brushing.

“Find me when I’m 60 and [my teeth] will probably be all out,” she told the audience, according to People. “But I literally have these strong powerful teeth that don’t need to be brushed.”

The singer’s dentist was ‘shocked’ by her brushing habits

Although most people were grossed out by Jessica Simpson’s (lack of) brushing habits, her dentist was shocked by her dental care routine.

While speaking with People in May 2010, Simpson’s dentist, Dr. Bill Dorfman, shared that he was surprised to hear of the star’s brushing habits.

“I was kind of shocked. I assumed everybody brushed their teeth all the time,” he told the outlet. “People pay us a lot of money for that slippery feeling. It s kind of the best part.”

In addition to being utterly shocked that Simpson only brushes her teeth a few times a week, Dr. Dorfman shared that he was also concerned after hearing the revelation, explaining that the singer was practicing habits that could be detrimental to her health.

“It’s great that she’s flossing all the time, but you have to brush too,” Dr. Dorfman said. “What goes on in your mouth really affects your whole body.”

Hopefully, Simpson heard her doctor’s recommendation and applied it to her daily routine because we would hate to think that she’s still going days without brushing her teeth.
