Jessica Simpson gets full ownership of her clothing brand

Simpson is jumping for joy after revealing that she has regained full ownership of her self-titled fashion brand. The Jessica Simpson Collection, which launched in 2005, was nearly swept from under Simpson’s thumb. Sequential Brands Group Inc., the brand’s previous parent company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, leaving the brand in limbo. But Simpson was not willing to give it up.

People Magazine reports that Simpson, 41, and her mom Tina, worked hard to have control. In 2015, the Simpson team owned a minority stake of just 37.5% in the company. Now, they own the whole thing.

“It means the absolute world to me to be able to take over complete ownership of my brand,” Jessica told Footwear News. “After 16 years in business, I feel ready to meet this next exciting phase with open arms. I know the sky is the limit when my mom, our incredible team, and I lock into our customers completely.”

Tina also spoke of what owning the brand means for her daughter, “For all of our hard-working, talented, amazing licensing partners, to know Jessica is at the helm gives them strength and belief in the future,” she said. “And for Jessica to regain control of her namesake brand, it allows her and I, alongside our amazing team, licensing and retail partners to build the legacy brand to carry on to her children and family.”

The singer thanks Vince Camuto for believing in her

The “Take My Breath Away” singer says her dream of owning her own fashion brand would not be possible without the help of famed designer, Vince Camuto. When Simpson began the line nearly two decades ago, Camuto was a co-owner. “Never in my wildest dreams could I fathom being part of a true lifestyle collection brand that has been at the top of its game for 16 years, but Vince could,” Jessica said. “After six months in the business, Vince knew.”

The Jessica Simpson Collection boasts clothes, shoes, and accessories. Items can be purchased online, on the official website, as well as in-store at major department stores such as Macy’s and DSW. The Jessica Simpson Collection is reportedly valued at over $1 billion now. Currently, her footwear line remains under the Camuto brand.

Yahoo News reports that Simpson credits Camuto for inspiring her to keep going despite the brand’s ownership challenges along the way. “He was a legend and talent in so many ways, but for me, it was his vision and attention to detail that was most inspiring,” she said.

Simpson continued: “He truly cared how a woman felt in her shoes, physically and metaphorically. I thought I was here doing a line of cowboy boots and that alone was exciting but he told me, ‘Never stop believing that it will happen.’ I took that advice and I think about his passion and endurance all the time. I miss Vince with all of my heart and was truly blessed by God to have the most wonderful mentor in him.”
