Jessica Simpson tried on a pair of jeans from her 20s

On July 9, 2020, her last day of being 39, Simpson took to Instagram to celebrate. Posing in the mirror and snapping a picture on her phone, she marked how far she’s come in her fitness journey.

Trying on a pair of “throwback” jeans, she shared with her nearly 5.5 million followers that they fit.

“I have kept these throwback True Religion jeans in my closet for 14 yrs (I’m not exaggerating!),” she wrote in the caption. “I figured that since I’m in the final hours of my 30’s I’d give them another try, and hello 40, so nice to meet you 🤸🏼‍♀️🙌🏼🥳.”

Some reacted positively to her post

As always, people on the internet were quick to share their opinions of Simpson’s post in the comments. Celebrities weighed in too.

Actor January Jones, known for her turn as Betty Draper Mad Men, commented on Simpson’s post saying, “You look about 15 lady 👌🏻.” And hairstylist to the stars, Ken Pavés, who has a history of working with Simpson responded with, “I remember those jeans!!! X.”

Others, not so much

For all the positive comments, of course, some people responded negatively to Simpson’s post. Simpson isn’t new to receiving criticism about her body. This post is another example among many of people body-shaming her.

“You’re shrinking so fast it’s scary 😳 Be safe beautiful,” one person wrote.

Another said: “Okay, no more losing weight!! 🙌🏽💕 you have lost it all and then some!🙌🏽 You’re good!”

“Ok go eat some guac now,” someone else wrote.

Another commented with, “Don’t lose any more weight please! You are so beautiful but maybe a little to skinny now?!?🥴,” while a different person said, “Love you!! But you look so much better with curves!!”

Jessica Simpson’s received criticism about her body for years

Receiving criticism about her body is ongoing for Simpson.

In 2009, people body-shamed her for wearing “mom jeans” during a performance at a chili cookoff. In her 2020 memoir, Open Book, Simpson reflected on the incident saying her mind went to her then-boyfriend, Tony Romo.

“It was awful, but the worst part was this: my very first thought was not my pain at becoming a joke or everyone laughing at me,” she wrote. Instead, she thought, “I feel so bad that Tony has to be with the fat girl.”
More recently, Simpson called out an instance of body-shaming in Vogue about an outfit she once wore to the Met Gala.
