‘Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer’ fans have a lot to say about the women from season 1

From who Steven McBee chose at the end of Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer to Carolyn Moore’s reaction in the finale episode, fans have a lot to say about the cast of the Fox reality TV series. “I’m blown away that Steven chose [Calah Jackson] over Annie [Jorgensen]??” said one Reddit user. “How?!? I thought they were so perfect for each other. I just didn’t see a big connection between [Calah] and Steven.”

Joe Millionaire fans have been outspoken about a lot, but Carolyn is the contestant who has received the most criticism online. She’s fairly active on Twitter, defending herself when the fan reactions call for it. But Martin stepped in to defend all of the Joe Millionaire women in a recent podcast interview.

‘Joe Millionaire’s Martin the Butler takes issue with fans who criticize the women

During an interview with The Right Reality podcast, Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer’s resident butler talked about the connections he shares with the cast of the reality series. A father himself, Martin thought of Steven, Kurt Sowers, and the women of season 1 as his children. Naturally, his protective side comes out whenever he sees fans speak negatively about the cast.

“I do get a little bit annoyed when I read some of the opinions people have,” Martin admitted on the podcast. “They formulate these opinions based on this one aspect of these ladies’ lives — it’s one little piece.”

Behind the scenes, Martin got to know each of the women. As he revealed on The Right Reality, Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer is one of the “realest reality shows” on television, including the female cast of season 1. Knowing what he does about these women, Martin used his time on the podcast to clarify what they were going through filming the show was real and how these women were on “national television … bearing their souls.”

‘Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer’ might come back for another season

Fox has yet to announce another season of Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer. But Martin’s ready to return in future episodes of the SallyAnn Salsano produced series.

“I love the experience so much,” Martin told Distractify. “I was terrified when I started filming. It was quite challenging. But, I would love to do this season after season.”

Like many fans, who think the Fox series is a “breath of fresh air” from ABC’s The Bachelor, Martin thinks Joe Millionaire is a “great concept.”

“They’ve come up with something fresh,” he elaborated. “With the two Joes in there — one’s a millionaire, one’s not — there’s so many variables you can do [in the future].”

ABC seems to be taking notes from Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer with the upcoming season of The Bachelorette. Rachel Recchia and Gabby Windey will co-star as the leads in the forthcoming season, mimicking what Kurt and Steven were for the Joe Millionaire reboot.
