London-born actor, John Boyega rose to fame in 2015, following his role as Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As one of the only Black faces in the history of the franchise aside from, Billy Dee Williams, Samuel L. Jackson, Donald Glover, and relative newcomer, Naomi Ackie, Boyega knew that he had a major task ahead of him, but he never let that deter him from his dream.

In fact, though he endured racial harassment, he has remained on social media and continued to speak out against injustices. Recently, following the murder of a Minneapolis man named name George Floyd who was killed after a police officer kneeled on his neck for five minutes, Boyega has continued to speak about racism.

Unfortunately, some trolls have tried to say that the 28-year-old has no place to speak because he’s wealthy. However, the Detroit actor just proved he doesn’t care about money.

John Boyega isn’t afraid to speak out

Many celebrities and public figures have come forward to speak about the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the unjust killings of Ahmad Abrey, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd among countless others. Amid the news of Floyd’s death, Boyega posted an Instagram post that read, “So heartbreaking to hear about the continuous cycle of violence aimed at black people by racist cops. Murder charges only. #justiceforgeorgefloyd First post where I’ve had to turn off comments. Ain’t none of you getting the last word today. That’s that.”

He also went on to say that he hated racists. Trolls tried to nullify his feelings by saying he was too harsh, but Boyega did not back down. “I said what I said,” he tweeted. “Speak for yourself at all times.”

He also wanted to clarify that he was talking about white supremacy against people of the African diaspora and no one else. When someone suggested that racism can come from anyone, Boyega retorted, “I don’t care, that’s not what I’m talking about.”

John Boyega doesn’t care about money

Some celebrities and public figures choose not to speak out or they donate silently for fear of career backlash, but Boyega who has at least four upcoming projects in the works according to IMDb has no qualms about that.

“It’s not about career,” he said. “It’s not about money. A lot of people like to bring that up. Career, money, all of that was just a part of my dream, a part of working. That hasn’t nothing to do with how you treat people.”

Later when a troll tried to shame Boyega for his net worth and for being a British born Black person, he had no qualms about replying. “A salary I worked hard for from nothing,” he tweeted. “I also remember walking through Thamesmead, getting jumped, and called an African monkey from 13. You idiots that like to think my millions dictate my mind are the worst.”
