Jordan Davis got Luke Bryan to feature on ‘Buy Dirt’ with a text

“Buy Dirt” is the title track to Davis’ album Buy Dirt, released in 2021. The album consists of eight songs, including “Blow Up Your TV,” “Need to Not,” “Drink Had Me”, and “Lose You.” In an interview with American Songwriter, Davis revealed that he and his brother Jacob Davis alongside their friends Josh and Matt Jenkins, rented out a cabin to write the song.

According to Matt, he got the idea for the song title after he heard someone saying, “Buy dirt, they aren’t making any more of it.” The quad then talked about the idea of writing about owning a farm and settled on the song title.

What came out of the idea, according to Davis, is a song that speaks about “Faith, family, and friends and really finding your happiness.” The group shared that “Buy Dirt” was one of the fastest songs they ever wrote, recounting writing it in “probably like 30 minutes.”

In an interview on The Bobby Bones Show, Davis said, “From the moment we finished it, I was like, man this just feels like Luke.” He continued saying, ” … and the cool thing is that song is Luke.” Davis continued gushing about his collaborator, noting that since Bryan has farms in Tennessee, he “knows a little about buying dirt.”

The singer recalled needing Bryan to feature on the song and sending him a text message with the song attached. “I was like, ‘the song means a lot to me and I think it’s going to speak to you. If it does, I would love to have you on it. If not, I know you’re busy but don’t feel the need to respond but just check it out and I hope you will,'” Davis said.

‘Buy Dirt’ has experienced enormous success

Davis, as it seems, knows how to deliver hard-hitting hits, as witnessed with his other songs. The move to also feature Bryan worked as the song has experienced great reception since it dropped. The song got nominated for an ACM Award for Song of The Year and Single of The Year.

According to Billboard, “Buy Dirt” has done exceptionally well on charts, reaching number one on the Hot Country Songs chart after being on the chart for 34 weeks. The song sold 3,300 downloads and achieved 7.4 million US streams in the week ending Jan 20. “Buy Dirt” also witnessed a 9% gain in its 28th week on country airplay, with up to 27.7 million audience impressions by Jan 23.
