Josh Duggar’s Trial: Derick and Jill Dillard Take a Dig at the Duggar Family in Public Statement About the Verdict

Josh Duggar’s trial is over. The guilty verdict seemed to truly shock Josh’s wife, Anna Duggar, and his father, Jim Bob Duggar. Several other members of the Duggar family expected the verdict, though. Derick Dillard and Jill Dillard seemed to sense that it was coming. They issued a public statement just hours after a jury of 12 handed down the verdict. While most of their public statement was kind, the duo didn’t miss an opportunity to make a dig at Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.

Derick and Jill Dillard were among the first Duggar family members to release a public statement following the guilty verdict. They published it on their official family blog. Derick and Jill’s words might have been measured, but the duo didn’t miss an opportunity to take a dig at the Duggars.

In their statement, they said, “We have been lied to so much that we wanted to hear the evidence for ourselves in court. After seeing all the evidence as it was presented, we believe that the jury reached a just verdict today, consistent with the truth beyond a reasonable doubt.” The line seems to subtly shade Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. The patriarch and matriarch of the famous family are now known for spinning false narratives. The public statement is not the first time Derick Dillard has accused Jim Bob and Michelle of lying, either.

Over the years, Derick has stated that Jim Bob lied about earning from the family’s TLC show, Counting On. He has criticized the father of 19 for failing to protect his children, ostracizing Jill Dillard, and refusing her contact with her younger siblings for fear of her influence.

The Duggar family seems to be coming undone at the seams

Josh Duggar’s trial might have been the biggest issue the Duggar family has faced so far. It also seems to be the controversy affecting the family’s dynamic the most. In-fighting appears to have spilled out onto public forums, with several Duggar family members making biting comments and subtle digs.

Aside from Jill and Derick Dillard’s public statement shading the family, Amy Duggar King and Jeremy and Jinger Vuolo have issued statements. Both of their statements attempted to clarify how they feel about Josh and much of the Duggar clan. King, the family’s rebellious cousin, has been outspoken about her feelings in recent weeks. After the judge announced the verdict, she expressed happiness and hopes for future healing. More recently, she took to Instagram to take a shot at Jana Duggar, 31.

Shortly after the judge announced the verdict, news broke that local police arrested Jana in September 2021. She is charged with a misdemeanor for endangering the welfare of a minor. Jana will appear in court in January. The unmarried 31-year-old still lives in her parents’ home. It is unclear what led to her arrest.

Jeremy and Jinger released a statement calling Josh a hypocrite. Their lengthy statement expressed thanks for the legal system that exposed and punished Josh. Jinger, 27, was one of several siblings that Josh sexually abused when they were children. The prosecution discussed the molestation incidents during Josh Duggar’s trial. The incidents occurred in 2002 and 2003, but InTouch broke the story in 2015. Jason Duggar, 21, shared Jeremy and Jinger’s statement on his own Instagram.
