Singer Josh Levi has continued his hot streak by releasing the video for “Don’t They,” taken from his recent project, DISC ONE. The video stars one of his close friends and a familiar face.

Early career

First getting his start as an actor, Levi had a recurring role on the acclaimed NBC/The 101 Network series drama series, Friday Night Lights. The series’ main cast included Connie Britton, Kyle Chandler, Michael B. Jordan, Adrianne Palicki, Michael B. Jordan, and Jurnee Smollett. In the series, he appeared the character, Darius Merriwether, from 2009 to 2011. His character was one of the younger brothers of Smollett’s character, Jess Merriwether.

Several years later, he was a contestant on the U.S. version of the reality music competition series, The X Factor. He was on the show’s third season. Levi made it to the finals as a part of Paulina Rubio’s “Boys” group. He was initially eliminated in the first live show of the season. However, despite being eliminated, he was brought back by the judges. He ended up placing eighth overall on the show. He had several notable performances. Songs he performed on the show Rihanna’s “Only Girl (In the World) and “Stay,” Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up,” Bruno Mars’ “Treasure” and many others.

‘The X Factor’ alum released his first project this year’

After The X Factor, he continued to release music. He put out several single and released many cover songs and videos over the past few years. On the acting front, he also appeared on the Nickelodeon series, Game Shakers. He was briefly in a boyband, Citizen Four, before departing to focus on his solo career. His first solo project, DISC ONE, earlier this month. Two singles from the project include “If the World” and “Know Better.”

In an interview about the project, he spoke about the sound of his music. “It is hard to categorize music, especially like as a Black male artist,” he said to Hollywood Life. “So because I’m not one thing, there’s elements of pop, there’s R&B, there’s rock, there’s all the things that I love, there’s alternatives, some of everything.”

The ‘Don’t They’ video dropped this week

On Thursday, Levi dropped the video for “Don’t They.” It is the third song from the album to get a video. Starring fellow singer Normani, who he is longtime friends with, Levi said on Instagram that the video is “is dedicated to the lack of love we’ve seen all year and a celebration of black love.”

Photograph Blair Caldwell, who is friends with both Levi and Normani, directed the video in his directorial debut. Speaking about the video, he wrote on Instagram,

“The best thing is being able to work with your friends! Thank you for trusting me to direct this video @joshlevi & @normani you know I love you forever thank you for agreeing to be apart! #dontthey music video out now!!!”
