Joshua Bassett commented on Rickyā€™s role in ā€˜High School Musical: The Musical: The Seriesā€™

Clearly, the cast and the series meant a lot to Joshua Bassett. The actor even commented on the importance of characters like Ricky when he comes to inspiring younger viewers.

ā€œOne of my favorite things [was when] two eight and nine-year-old boys ran up to me and they were like, ā€˜Oh my gosh. I love your show. I sing all the songs all the time,'ā€ Joshua Bassett said during an interview with Playbill, regarding the gap between loving music and loving musicals.

ā€œI just thought that was the sweetest, most awesome thingā€”to be inspiring younger boys to do it and not be afraid,ā€ he continued. ā€œWhatā€™s really cool is how people can see Troy Bolton, who plays basketball, whoā€™s also in musical theatre, and now Ricky Bowen, whoā€™s a skater and ā€˜Oh, heā€™s too cool for musical theatre,ā€™ but he does it for love and then finds out he loves musical theatre just as much.ā€
