Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is arriving in theaters around the world, and the anime movie promises to bring interesting new characters into the fold while expanding on the main series’ supporting cast. Here’s a breakdown of all the major players in the film — from newcomers Yuta Okkotsu (Megumi Ogata/Kayleigh McKee) and Rika Orimoto (Kana Hanazawa/Anairis Quiñones) to established fan favorites like Satoru Gojo (Yuichi Nakamura/Kaiji Tang).

Yuta and Rika are ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’s main characters

Yuta Okkotsu and Rika Orimoto serve as the main characters of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which is set before the events of the main anime. Similar to Yuji Itadori (Junya Enoki/Adam McArthur), Yuta finds himself enrolled at Jujutsu High School and facing a secret execution. However, the reason behind Yuta’s enormous amount of cursed energy differs.

Yuta’s connected to the cursed spirit of his childhood friend Rika, who died in a car accident when they were kids. He doesn’t know how to control his connection to Rika or her immense power. That’s why the directors at Jujutsu High view him as a threat, but it also explains Satoru Gojo’s interest in him. Gojo attempts to help Yuta unravel his and Rika’s curse, all while training him to use it to his advantage.

As far as Rika goes, fans mostly see her in flashbacks or in her cursed state. The latter proves a force to be reckoned with. Of course, when you consider her cursed form’s attachment to Yuta, it’s clear she’s still the young girl he once loved. Hers and Yuta’s story is a tragic one. It’s sure to leave fans in their feelings after watching the film.

Satoru Gojo is back in this prequel movie

Jujutsu Kaisen fans already know and love Satoru Gojo, and they can expect plenty of this fan-favorite character in the prequel movie. The Gojo we see here isn’t much different than the one from the anime. He holds similar ideals, and he cares for his students. That’s not surprising, since Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is set only a year before the main storyline.

Still, the film gives viewers a chance to understand Gojo better. It also features plenty of action moments — and who wouldn’t want to see one of the strongest Jujutsu sorcerers in action on the big screen?

Suguru Geto gets more depth in ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’

Suguru Geto (Takahiro Sakurai/Lex Lang) also plays a prominent role in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, and as usual, he’s giving the other characters plenty of grief.

Geto remains an antagonist in this prequel story, but the film sheds more light on his motivations. He mostly pulls strings from behind the curtain in the main series, but Geto takes on a more active role in the film.

Not only will fans get to see Geto in action, but they can better understand why he’s so hellbent on striking back at Jujutsu High School. They also get further insight into his relationship with Gojo, which goes deeper than you’d think.

Maki, Toge, and Panda get more screen time

Gojo and Geto aren’t the only characters from the main anime that appear in Jujutsu Kaisen 0. In fact, viewers will recognize Yuta’s classmates, all of whom are still at Jujutsu High School when Itadori enrolls.

That’s right, Panda (Tomokazu Seki/Matthew David Rudd), Maki (Mikako Komatsu/Allegra Clark), and Toge (Koki Uchiyama/Xander Mobus) are all back for this feature film. And fans will get to see this trio in a new light. The film explores each of them through their interactions with Yuta, as well as their relationships with each other.

Seeing more of this trio will no doubt leave viewers wondering when Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will arrive. Fortunately, the film should hold them over a little longer.
