Julia Roberts has delighted audiences for over 35 years. Between her megawatt smile and approachable demeanor, she’s known as America’s Sweetheart. She’s well known for being friendly and easy to work with. But when it comes to food, there’s one thing she won’t put up with. If you choose to serve her this for dinner, she won’t respond with her characteristic charm. In fact, she says it “would be bad.”

According to Biography, Roberts moved to New York City to pursue acting in 1985, right after graduating high school. Within three years, she got noticed when she appeared in the movie Mystic Pizza. She became a household name the following year when she co-starred in the huge hit Steel Magnolias

The Georgia native went on to star in many blockbusters, including Pretty Woman, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Notting Hill, and Runaway Bride. After several years at the top of the rom-com game, Roberts started to focus on more serious roles. She starred in several dramatic roles, including Erin Brockovich, August: Osage County, and The Normal Heart.

She may have had a quick rise to fame, but her career has had impressively long-staying power. Roberts has demonstrated that she has the ability to carry both comedies as well as dramatic roles. She continues to win over audiences 35 years after her first big movie.

But that doesn’t mean she’s always agreeable. During an interview promoting a project she was acting in a few years ago, she shared some insight on what she likes to eat. She had strong opinions about what you should never serve her.

Julia Roberts: ‘That would be bad’

In 2018, Roberts starred in the Amazon Prime original series Homecoming. She didn’t return as an actor for Season 2, but instead switched to being an executive producer for the show. Her character was taken over by Janelle Monáe.

In 2018, she did interviews to promote the series, appearing on the Wired YouTube series featuring stars answering the most searched questions about them online. She was joined by her co-star from Homecoming, Dermot Mulroney.

The two demonstrated their close friendship, with each easily answering questions about the other, such as what their middle names are. Then the question came up, “What does Julia Roberts eat?” At first, her response seemed just as easygoing as you’d expect from such a well-loved star. “Everything,” she said.

“She has a great appetite,” Mulroney agreed. “She has a great appetite. I gotta tell you, I’ve known Julia for a long time. She won’t eat onions, though.”

“Nope,” Roberts emphasized, “Ever, yeah. Don’t invite me over for onion soup. That would be bad.”

Recently, Roberts starred in a miniseries on the Starz network called Gaslit. According to The New York Times, it’s the first acting work she’s done since 2018. The story takes place during the Richard Nixon presidency. Roberts plays Martha Mitchell, the wife of attorney general John Mitchell, who was Nixon’s friend.

Later this year, Roberts is also reuniting with former co-star George Clooney in a new rom-com movie called Ticket to Paradise. Fans are happy to see her coming back in both a dramatic role as well as one of the lighthearted parts that made her famous.

She may not be a fan of onions, but her many admirers probably don’t mind. After all, everyone is entitled to their own preferences–even America’s Sweetheart.
