‘Jurassic World’: Josh Brolin Turned Down Chris Pratt’s Role, ‘I Could Not Picture Me Doing it’
Jurassic World is one of the biggest movie franchises in the world and Josh Brolin was almost a part of it. Brolin has been appearing in some of the biggest movies in the world, so he isn’t missing out on finding success. However, the Dune actor almost had an opportunity to play Chris Pratt’s role in Jurassic World.
‘Jurassic World’ is one of the most successful movie franchises of all time
The first Jurassic World introduced audiences to a fully realized amusement park where tourists could come and see dinosaurs. Of course, one of the genetically-modified dinosaurs gets loose and the whole park gets consumed in chaos. The second film, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, accidentally lets the dinosaurs loose on our world.
Pratt plays Owen Grady, a Velociraptor trainer who is able to bond with some of the creatures. He is a key player in trying to handle them and becomes a central hero. The first two Jurassic World movies made over $1 billion. The third film, Jurassic World Dominion, is concluding this trilogy and is bringing back the original cast from Jurassic Park. It will most likely make a ton of money at the box office once again.
Josh Brolin almost played Chris Pratt’s character in ‘Jurassic World’
A role in Jurassic World would be a dream come true for any actor. Brolin is a very successful actor who has the luxury of turning down this type of role. In an interview with The Playlist, Brolin shared that he just “could not picture himself” doing this part. He knew that Pratt would do a good job after his performance in Guardians of the Galaxy.
“And Jurassic World, with all respect to Steven [Spielberg], I could not picture me doing it,” Brolin said. “I could not picture me being that guy. And I’m very, very happy, based on my decision, of what Chris does with it because I think Chris is the right guy. When I saw Chris in Guardians Of The Galaxy, and I was just like, ‘WHAT??’ I mean, we all were. I even said it to him embarrassingly at a party, ‘DUDE!’… So, I think I knew from a big picture standpoint that somebody else would do a much better job than me.”
This comment comes after Brolin confirmed that he denied a number of prominent roles. He recently stated on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he almost played Batman in the DCEU, which ended up being played by Ben Affleck. He also almost played Kyle Chandler’s role in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street.
Josh Brolin is no stranger to starring in blockbuster movies
Brolin is still very busy with plenty of roles in massive studio movies. He had two major roles in Marvel properties: Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame and Cable in Deadpool 2. In addition, he recently played Gurney Halleck in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune adaptation.
So even though Brolin has declined a number of roles that any other actor could only dream of, it’s not like Brolin isn’t incredibly busy. Brolin currently stars in the series Outer Range on Amazon Prime.
