Kanye West Says YEEZY Is As Iconic As Apple and McDonalds

For over two decades, Kanye West has been known as one of the most influential hip hop artists that the industry has to offer. During his career, he has won several awards and has numerous number-one albums.

In addition to his prosperous music career, he has also launched his clothing and apparel line. The line sells comfortable clothing for men and women.

West has also collaborated with Nike and Adidas to create a one-of-a-kind shoe brand. And so far, the Yeezy collaboration seems to make big money for West.

In fact, the latest shoes that he released had completely sold out within minutes. There is no argument that the Yeezy brand is iconic, but is it already as iconic as McDonald’s and Apple? West definitely thinks so.

How did Kanye West get into the fashion industry

West has always had a flair for fashion. In 2007, he collaborated with the popular street brand, Bape, to design a sporty and unique sneaker.

In 2009, West collaborated with Nike to create a sneaker called The Air Yeezy 1. The shoe sold for $215 and sold out almost immediately.  That same year, West went on to collaborate with Louis Vuitton to create three different sneakers that were priced between $800 and $1,200. 

West then went on to intern with Fendi and really started to develop his own clothing brand. In 2011, he created his first women’s clothing line, but it was met with negative reviews as many people thought that the clothes looked too big and did not do a good job at showing off the flattering sides of a woman’s body.

Shortly after that, West collaborated with Nike again to create the Air Yeezy 2. His newest collaboration didn’t hit shelves until 2012 and only a limited number of shoes were made. The Air Yeezy 2’s went for $250 at the time. However, there are some people are that are now reselling the shoe for up to $5,000.

West had claimed that he wasn’t receiving any royalties for his shoe design with Nike. So, in 2013, he signed an exclusive deal with Adidas. According to Forbes, his new deal gave him a 15% royalty on wholesale and he would get to keep ownership of the Yeezy name. 

In 2015, he had his first Yeezy fashion show that showcased his clothing and sneakers. One of the biggest hits to come out of his clothing line was the Yeezy Boost 350 sneaker. His unique and stylish sneaker sold for $200 a pair and had reportedly sold over 40,000 units in just a few minutes. 

West is now the owner of one of the most successful clothing lines in the world, and he owes most of his success to his shoes. In 2019, he released his glow-in-the-dark 350 v2, which sold out around the world in just a few minutes. West has an estimated net worth of $240 million and it is estimated that about half of his net worth comes from his Yeezy brand.

Is the Yeezy brand one of the iconic brands of our time?

Recently, West had said that he believes that his brand is one of the most iconic brands around.

He said: “I believe that YEEZY is the McDonald’s and the Apple of apparel. In order to make the Apple of apparel the next Gap, it has to be a new invention. To invent something that’s so good that you don’t even get credit for it because it’s the norm.”

There is no denying that the Yeezy brand is definitely iconic. The fact that his clothing line has thousands of fans lined up around the block in order to get their hands on one of his new creations suggests that his brand will certainly be remembered for years to come.
