As Kanye West continues to make headlines for worrying behavior attributed to his bipolar disorder, his family has been trying to step in.

The “Otis” rapper said in a string of July 20 tweets that Kim Kardashian West and Kris Jenner had been trying to “lock him up” after he broke down at a campaign rally a day earlier. But he noted he had been resisting their efforts. Sources have added that he has allegedly threatened to livestream any intervention his family attempts to “show the world the truth.”

The latest on Kanye West

Ever since his campaign rally — where he made a number of baffling statements including that Harriet Tubman actually didn’t free slaves and that he and Kardashian West had considered aborting their daughter North — West has been holed up in his Wyoming ranch.

He tweeted on July 20 that Jenner and Kardashian West had been trying to fly from Calabasas, California with doctors to “5150 [him],” meaning to have him involuntarily committed to a mental institution.

A source told CNN that West actually did see a doctor who said he did not need to be hospitalized, but still: “Kanye’s close friends and team are concerned and everyone’s top priority is to make sure that he’s getting the help he needs.”

Echoing that, a source told The Sun: “Kanye is very unwell and everyone’s very worried for him. He’s acting extremely paranoid and seems convinced Kim and Kris Jenner are ‘out to get him.'” However, the insider suggested it could get even uglier if they try to stage an intervention.

“He’s told her that if the Kardashian family try and stage an intervention he’ll live stream it on Twitter and ‘show the world the truth,'” the insider continued. “He’s warned Kim that he knows the family ‘secrets’ and will put them all out there. There’s a lot that isn’t on the reality show (Keeping Up with the Kardashians) – feuds, secret celebrity hook ups, surgery, financial deals and rows within the family.”

“But Kim’s only concern at this stage is getting Kanye help and protecting their children,” the source continued, referencing their four children: North, 7, Saint, 4, Chicago, 2, and Psalm, 1. “She’s very worried.”

What has Kim Kardashian West said about this?

Kardashian West hinted that she’d attempted to get help for her husband in a message shared on Instagram on July 22. However, she said she was powerless without consent from the Yeezy designer, whom she married in June 2014 following a two-year relationship.

“Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behavior know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor,” she wrote in part. “People who are unaware or far removed from this experience can be judgemental and not understand that the individual themselves have to engage in the process of getting help no matter how hard family and friends try.” But despite that and the apparent tension between them, Kardashian West seemed to say she would be sticking by him regardless.

Detailing her day-to-day life in the midst of West’s troubles, a HollywoodLife source said:

“Kim is currently in LA while Kanye is in Wyoming. She’s had her mom and Kendall stay over and by her side, but she really doesn’t want to see anyone. This is a really, really difficult time for her. They haven’t spoken much, but she urged Kanye to take down the tweets, which he did. They have had a conversation, but he really wants to be left alone and is hard to get a hold of. The whole situation has everyone sad.”

A second source added: “Of course Kim has tried to be by Kanye’s side but that’s not what he wants right now and there’s nothing she can do about that. All she can do is control her own life and make decisions for what’s best for herself. She feels blessed to have an amazing support system in her family, and is thankful Kanye has true friends who are showing their support for him right now, too.”

Among those friends is comedian Dave Chappelle who flew to see West at his ranch on July 21. West documented the moment on Twitter, calling him a “godsend and a true friend” for flying all the way from his home in Yellow Springs, Ohio to check on him.
