Kate Hudson Shares the Gross Reason Why She Didn’t Like Kissing Matthew McConaughey On-Screen

While appearing on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop podcast, the actor revealed that several of the kissing scenes she’s had with McConaughey were far from enjoyable, noting that copious amounts of snot caused one of their makeouts to be not so great.

Name a better rom-com duo than Hudson and McConaughey.
The talented actors have played lovers in not one but two big-screen hits. First, they starred as the dynamic duo Ben and Andie in the 2003 fan-favorite film, How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days. Five years later, they shared the screen again in Fool’s Gold.
Those who’ve seen these films are well aware of the impeccable chemistry Hudson and McConaughey have and might even go as far as to say the actors were the ultimate on-screen power couple of the early 2000s.
But despite working well together, Hudson and McConaughey’s on-screen kisses were far from enjoyable. In fact, the Raising Helen actor recently revealed that her kissing scenes with the Dallas Buyers Club star were so bad that she considers them to be some of the worst of her career.
Too much snot was involved during one of Hudson’s kissing scenes with McConaughey
While appearing on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop podcast on Oct. 13, Hudson opened up about some of her on-screen kisses, revealing that not all of them were great.
“You know, I feel like I kind of haven’t had the best kissers,” the mother of three admitted after Paltrow asked which of her former co-stars was the best in the lip-locking area. “I feel like I should have had better ones.”
Hudson went on to share that her kisses with McConaughey were left to be desired, pointing out that all of their kissing scenes took place during less than desirable circumstances.
“The thing is, every time I kiss McConaughey, it’s like, I mean, it’s like there’s just something happening and there’s like snot or wind, or things are just,” she laughed. “Like when we were kissing in the end of Fool’s Gold, we’re like in the ocean, we like had the plane crash, he just had snot all over his face.”
Talk about gross.
Paltrow then asked Hudson if her on-screen makeouts with McConaughey felt more brotherly than romantic, to which she responded with, “I think yeah, it can be a little sibling-y at times. But no.”
One on-screen kiss checked all of the boxes for Hudson
Though most of Hudson’s on-screen kisses with pretty bad, there was one experience that was rather enjoyable for the actor.
As she and Paltrow ended their conversation about on-screen makeouts, Hudson shared that her favorite kissing scene was with actor Billy Crudup in Almost Famous, but revealed that the smooch didn’t make it into the final cut of the movie.
“You know who is a good kisser, but you didn’t see it because they cut it out? Was Billy,” Hudson said. “Billy was good. That was good. … We had a kissing scene in the ice room, which then wasn’t in the movie.”
“He looked like he would be a good kisser,” Paltrow mused.
Seeing as we’ll never have the chance to see that kiss play out on-screen, we’ll just have to take Hudson’s word that it was a Hollywood movie magic-worthy smooch.
