The British royal family has been thrust into the spotlight lately in the way that they haven’t had to contend with in years. Though there has been much said about Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, life for Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge has also changed drastically in the past year.

In the spring of 2019, the world was alarmed when rumors swirled that Prince William had been having an affair with Kate’s good friend, Rose Hanbury. Though those rumors eventually died down, echos of it persisted.

Also amid Megxit, and then the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, all eyes have been on the Duchess of Cambridge in a way that they haven’t been previously. Now, a body language expert says since those initial affair rumblings, the duchess has changed a great deal.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are closer than ever

While the Cambridges were clearly shaken following the Sussexes exit from the royal family, the pair have emerged as the face of the royal family amid the COVID-19 crisis. They’ve also had the opportunity to reconnect with Prince Harry and Meghan despite the physical distance between them. Most importantly, the experience has brought the royal couple closer together.

“The Cambridges are busier than ever since Harry and Meghan left the U.K.,” an alleged source told US Weekly. “You’d think their hectic schedule would put a strain on the marriage, but it’s actually brought them closer together. Working as a team and supporting each other is essential at a time like this, and that’s exactly what they’re doing.”

Kate Middleton has emerged as a royal leader

Though Kate has been criticized in the past for her lack of work ethic, in recent years and certainly since Megxit, she’s emerged as a royal leader. Royal commentator Angela Mollard has spoken about the duchess’ take-charge personality during the many Zoom calls she’s had as of late.

“I love how Kate took charge on the call, introducing both of them,” Mollard noted about the duchess’ call with the Casterton Primary Academy school during the Royals podcast. “It gave you an insight into what she must be like at home. I think she’s supremely organized, I think she’s the boss in the relationship. She sort of led the conversation, but in a nice way. She’s the boss in that mother of three children who does 50 million things a day.”

Kate Middleton changed drastically after those Prince William affair rumors

Dealing with those nasty rumors about an affair may have prepared Kate for what she is dealing with today. “There has been a change in her [Kate’s] body language rituals recently, suggesting changes in her life or attitude. She seems more confident projecting herself as a ‘stand-alone’ royal…” royal expert Judi James told Express.

Interestingly enough, the duchess isn’t the only one who has changed as of late. It appears that Prince William now has a different perspective after battling his own rumors and his brother’s exit from the royal family. According to Radio Times, in BBC’s forthcoming documentary, Football, Prince William and our Mental Health, Prince William is now contemplating the royal family’s “stiff upper lip policy.”

“We have to start questioning whether it’s relevant in today’s world,” he says.
