Any celebrity will attest to the fact that life in the spotlight has its challenges. However, living as a working member of the British royal family is a different beast on its own. After all, the royal family is a historic institution with its own set of rules and regulations. The late Princess Diana, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and even Sarah, Duchess of York have spoken openly about the challenges that they faced.

On the other hand, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge has thrived in the royal fold. Though the duchess also married into the royal fold, she’s been able to adapt rather seamlessly under the scrutiny and despite the pressure of her position.

However, an insider told Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, the authors of Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of A Modern Royal, that Kate has survived because she’s so guarded.

Kate Middleton is just now stepping into the spotlight

Kate met and began dating Prince William in 2001 during their first year of college at St. Andrew’s University. Though they broke up briefly twice, once in 2003 and then again in 2007, they managed to repair their issues and come back together.

Even after they wed, Kate had no real interest in the spotlight, Though she appeared at various royal events with and without her husband, she did not have an endless jampacked schedule. Though critics slammed her work ethic, she was focused on adjusting to the global stage and then raising her children. Now, nearly a decade after her wedding, Kate is finding her footing. Royal expert Leslie Carroll told Express,

In Meghan’s absence, and particularly during the coronavirus lockdown, Kate has been compelled to step to the forefront a lot more. Even from behind her keyboard and computer screen, she has become more visible and accessible. She is naturally more diffident than Meghan; the openness with strangers doesn’t come naturally to her, although she can speak candidly on subjects close to her heart, such as parenting.

Kate Middleton has been determined to thrive in the British royal family

Since she knew what she was getting into by marrying Prince William, Kate understood the unique steps she would have to take in order to survive in the royal fold. For the duchess, this meant modeling her life after Queen Elizabeth II and separating her public and private persona.

“I’ve spent quite a lot of time around Kate and she is impenetrable,” a source told Tatler Magazine. “There is nothing to like or dislike. She has a ruthless survival streak, just like the House of Windsor. It’s why she is so well suited. She keeps her head down because the prize of being queen is so great. She models herself on the Queen and now speaks like the Queen.”

Kate Middleton is an extremely guarded person

Kate has been able to keep her personal and private lives separate because she doesn’t let people in. Its something, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex was not expecting when she met Kate.

“Despite the fact that Harry was a regular guest in her household Kate seemingly didn’t care to get to know who this woman was who had made her brother-in-law so happy,” an insider revealed in Finding Freedom. “The Duchess of Cambridge is an extremely guarded person. Meghan was disappointed that she and Kate hadn’t bonded over the unique position they shared and that Catherine felt they did not have much in common other than the fact that they lived at Kensington Palace.”
