The new tell-all biography about Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has reportedly left Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge “devastated.” The book includes claims about the reason for Prince Harry and Prince William’s feud and why there’s tension between Meghan and Kate.

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton weren’t close friends

An excerpt from the new book Finding Freedom, published in The Times, provides a look inside Kate and Meghan’s relationship from authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

“Meghan would agree with the assessment that the duchesses were not the best of friends,” the authors write. “Their relationship hadn’t progressed much since she was Harry’s girlfriend.”

Meghan, the book claims, hoped Kate would be more welcoming and offer “everything an outsider to the Firm [the working side of the royal family] needed to know.”

The two duchesses didn’t have a close bond but, the writers note, Meghan “wasn’t losing sleep over it.”

A source further explained to the authors that Kate believed she didn’t have anything in common with Meghan other than “the fact that they lived at Kensington Palace.”

Book claims Prince Harry didn’t like Prince William’s advice about Meghan

Finding Freedom also makes claims about why there has been tension between Prince Harry and Prince William, stemming from the relationship advice that William gave to his brother. Prince Harry reportedly didn’t like William’s insight, finding him to be snobby about Meghan.

In an excerpt published by The Times, sources told the authors the details of their conversation. “Don’t feel you need to rush this,” Prince William reportedly said. “Take as much time as you need to get to know this girl.”

“Harry was pissed off,” another source said of their conversation. “Pissed off that his brother would ask such a thing.”

“Some felt it was an overreaction,” they added. “But then, this sums them up as people — William, the calm and rational one, and Harry, who can’t help but take things far too personally.”

The authors explain that Harry found the way William referred to Meghan as “this girl” didn’t sit well with him. “In those last two words, ‘this girl,’ Harry heard the tone of snobbishness that was anathema to his approach to the world,” the authors write.

Kate Middleton is reportedly ‘devastated’ about the book

Though Kate has not responded to the book’s claims, royal author Andrew Morton told New Idea that she is reportedly “devastated” about the claims made in the book and is “upset” by the feud between Prince Harry and Prince William.

“There’s no doubt the rift between Harry and William has deeply affected Kate. It upsets her,” Morton explained.

He added how Kate, if she had to take sides, would be loyal to her husband. “As a loyal wife, Kate has definitely sided with her husband. No question of it. She’s his loyal wife and will always be his loyal wife. That’s a given,” Morton noted.

Royal commentator Phil Dampier believes that the biography will “do little to heal the relationship between Harry and his blood family, particularly with his brother William.”

“I’m told that the pair are speaking at the moment, but the conversations are stilted and difficult,” he added.
