From the moment Prince Harry asked Duchess Meghan Markle to be his wife –the public decided to pit the former actress against her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton. Middleton was heavily pregnant with her youngest son, Prince Louis up until the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding day, and relatively out of the spotlight. Still, rumors of a feud between the two women continued to swirl.

Luckily, those awful tabloid headlines have died down quite a bit. We’ve now learned that Middleton and Markle never had any issues with one another. Instead, it was Prince William and Prince Harry who were experiencing a rift. Though she is extremely busy with her three little ones — The Duchess of Cambridge has always gone out of her way to make Markle feel welcome–even on the Suits alum’s wedding day.

Kate Middleton’s kind gesture on Meghan Markle’s wedding day

When Meghan Markle wed Prince Harry on May 19, 2018 –all eyes were on the American actress in her stunning and sleek Givenchy wedding gown. With over 800 wedding guests and 29 million people watching at home, we’re certain it was a nerve-wracking experience for the Duchess of Sussex.

Still, the Duchess of Cambridge wanted to make sure her new sister-in-law had the spotlight on her. Middleton’s “act of generosity” assured that no one was really talking about her. The Duchess of Cambridge chose to wear a dress that she had worn numerous times before. On the podcast Royals, royal expert Angela Mollard said,

What I loved was Kate Middleton wearing the pale primrose Alexander McQueen that she’s worn four times before, including for Charlotte’s christening. It just meant that no one looked at her, no one really photographed her. No one really thought about her until afterwards when we went ‘Oh, where was Kate and what was she wearing?’ That is such an act of generosity to your new sister-in-law. She is the most prominent member of the Royal Family other than the Queen right now. This was not her day and she just so graciously stood aside. Had she worn any bright colours or anything we hadn’t seen before it would have taken attention. What a kind thing to do.

Inside Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s relationship

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton don’t have much in common –but they certainly don’t have anything against each other. Both women attended Commonwealth Day in mid-March 2019 with their husbands Prince Harry and Prince William. It was Markle’s last public appearance before her maternity leave. During the event — Markle and Middleton publicly put rumors of their feud to rest with some sisterly PDA.

Middleton greeted her very pregnant sister-in-law with a warm kiss on the cheek. However, a royal insider told Vanity Fair that it was all very deliberate. They explained,

They might not have a huge amount in common, but Kate has no issue with Meghan. She wants them to get along, not just for Harry’s sake but because two royal sisters-in-law at loggerheads wouldn’t be good, and Kate knows that. For Kate, it’s about keeping their relationship professional and putting on a show of togetherness. There are no bad feelings, and I think Kate was keen to put an end to these rift rumors. She has no problem with Meghan, and she has made it clear to Meghan that she’s there for advice or whatever Meghan might need
