6 of the Fakest Moments on ‘Keeping up With the Kardashians’
Reality TV certainly isn’t what it used to be. Back in the day, we could count on legends like Tiffany “New York” Pollard to keep things real and authentic on series like Flavor of Love. However, since 2007, the KarJenners have been the first family of reality TV. Though we’ve watched the family go through their various triumphs, trials, and tribulations on Keeping Up with the Kardashians for well over a decade, not everything we’ve seen is completely authentic.
From the beginning, KarJenner matriarch, Kris Jenner has been an executive producer on the show which means she has a final say on the series’ scenes before they are aired. In recent years, Kim Kardashian West has also been made executive producer.
As a result, the KarJenners paint themselves in the best light, but as viewers have pointed out, some aspects of the KUWTK franchise are beyond fake.
Kylie Jenner’s lips
It’s no secret that Kylie Jenner’s looks have changed drastically in the past several years. However, for years, she refused to acknowledge the very obvious cosmetic enhancements that she’s had. In fact, during a 2014 episode all about her lips, the Kylie Cosmetics mogul explained that her unexplained lip fullness was due to “like, six different colors.”
However, Jenner has since walked back her comments on her “au natural” lips. “I have temporary lip fillers. It’s just an insecurity of mine … I want to admit to the lips, but people are so quick to judge me on everything,” she revealed in a 2015 interview with Teen Vogue.
Khloé Kardashian’s arrest
When the series began back in November 2007, one of the very first episodes was centered around Khloé Kardashian getting arrested for driving under the influence. The only issue is that the Good American founder had actually been arrested months prior, in March 2007 and the series hadn’t even begun filming until August 2007. In the show, Kardashian blamed her actions on her feelings surrounding the anniversary of her father’s death. But that would have been, September 30, 2007. Instead, KUWTK just staged the whole drama.
Kris Humpries proposal to Kim Kardashian
No one was convinced when Kim Kardashian randomly began dating NBA player Kris Humpries out of the blue. Even less convincing was Humpheries’ “surprise proposal.”
“I remember, like, Kim — she didn’t know he was going to propose at that moment, and she came in and she was completely surprised, and I think she had a bad reaction or something and she was embarrassed,” Humpries revealed in the couple’s divorce proceedings. “She said can we just, like, have me come back in one more time and be, like, really surprised. Because she had no idea it was going to happen. It was in her bedroom.” A KUWTK producer confirmed Humpries’ story.
Kim Kardashian coming to the conclusion to divorce Kris Humpries
Kardashian and Humpries’ marriage lasted all of 72 days before the KKW Beauty mogul pulled the plug. During an episode of KUWTK, Kardashian can be seen complaining to her mother, about her marriage. It made it look like she had no choice but to divorce Humphries.
However, the show’s producers revealed it was all scripted. Also, there was a scripted scene where the starlet freaked out on the NBA star for throwing a party when she was out of town, making him look terrible. That never happened. “Anyone who loves someone would not team up with their production team to make them look like a fool on TV,” one of Humpries friends told Life & Style.
The KarJenners take Cuba
One of the most puzzling fake scenes in KUWTK happened in Season 12 when Kourtney, Kim, and Khloé go ton Cuba. Back in LA, Malika Haqq, Scott Disick, and Kris Jenner decide they want to recreate Cuba in Calabasa because they miss the sisters so much.
However, the ladies returned from their trip on May 6, 2016 and the Cuba in LA scene was shot on May 26, 2016. It was clearly just added filler for the episode.
Khloé Kardashian’s reaction to the Tristan Thompson/Jordyn Woods scandal
Like everyone else, the KarJenner’s found out about Thompson kissing Woods on the internet. However, his many infidelities were a long-known fact. Therefore, when Khloé began yelling and screaming in a scene depicting the incident on KUWTK, no one was really convinced this was her off- the cuff reaction.
“Liar! They both admitted it to me. Both of them,” Khloe yells. “Don’t f*cking lie to me though about lying though.” These days, she and Thompson seem as cozy as ever.
