Schitt’s Creek star Annie Murphy appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Jan. 29, 2020. The actress appeared in honor of the sixth and final season of Schitt’s Creek. On the talk show, Clarkson and Murphy performed a remix of “A Little Bit Alexis,” a fan-favorite and iconic song from Schitt’s Creek.
Annie Murphy wrote ‘A Little Bit Alexis’ with her husband
In season 5 of Schitt’s Creek, Murphy’s character Alexis Rose auditions for a role in Moira’s town production of Cabaret. For the audition, Alexis sings an original song from her “critically reviewed limited reality series” A Little Bit Alexis.
“I’m expensive sushi / I’m a cute, huge yacht / I’m a little bit single / even when I’m not,” Alexis sings to Jocelyn and Moira during the audition.
The scene of Alexis auditioning with the song is a fan-favorite moment, mostly because of the way Murphy portrays Alexis during the song. While Murphy is a skilled actress, she also wrote the hit song. This is because Murphy knew Alexis “has many talents, but zero talent when it comes to singing and dancing … and the confidence of a thousand humans.”
Murphy co-wrote the song with her husband Menno Versteeg and his bandmate Nixon Boyd. Together Versteeg and Boyd are in the band Hollerado.
“We wanted to spoof the early 2000s kind of socialite pop singles that came out, but we also secretly really wanted to make an early 2000s socialite single that was a banger and that people would actually want to listen to,” Murphy said.
Annie Murphy and Kelly Clarkson performed the song from ‘Schitt’s Creek’
On Jan. 29, Murphy appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Clarkson and Murphy performed a remix of the hit song from Schitt’s Creek. For the “A Little Bit Alexis” remix, Clarkson added her own lyrics.
“I’m a whole lot of tipsy / When I drink fine wine / I got like 20 jobs / And I talk a lot / I’m a whole lot married / My man’s so hot,” Clarkson sang.
Murphy performed the exact choreography from Schitt’s Creek, and during the chorus Clarkson once again changed up the lyrics.
“I’m a little bit,” Murphy sang.
“I’m a whole lot,” sang Clarkson.
“La la la la la la la / A little bit Alexis,” sang Murphy.
“La la la la la la la / And a whole lot of Texas,” Clarkson sang.
