Bacon told GQ he knew he wanted to be an actor from a young age, but he didn’t know how to get started. He tried joining a local theatre group in Philadelphia, but things didn’t work out, so he left. Bacon decided to leave Philadelphia and head to New York to pursue his acting dreams.

“I applied to a summer program, which was The Circle and the Square, I guess it was a high school workshop,” Bacon told GQ. “I slept on my sister’s couch; my sister had been in New York for many years. And my mother was a New Yorker. I literally got on the train with a suitcase and a dream. I landed here and started waiting tables… I had the best time enjoying what was kind of the center of the universe in 1976 and then beyond.”
