When news first broke that Kanye West and Kim Kardashian would be taking up residence in Wyoming, the world gave a collective side-eye. It seemed like such a strange move for the well-connected Hollywood duo who seemed much more at home on the red carpet than under the wide blue skies of the sparsely populated state.

Now, though, it’s clear that this was no passing scheme. West and Kardashian are investing heavily into their new home and surrounding community, and their time there is starting to showcase just what the state has to offer. It turns out that Wyoming is an excellent — and affordable — travel destination that may have exactly what Americans looking for a great vacation are seeking.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West wanted an escape

Kardashian and West know better than most what it’s like to have a busy, hectic life. First, they have their respective careers — including West’s musical performances and Kardashian’s filming schedule for Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

On top of that, they have four young kids to raise. Finally, they each have their own passion projects. Kardashian has been working on a law degree to further her interests in criminal justice, and West has been working toward building up his newfound community based around religion — even if some think it’s a cult.

Add to that the fact that the pair are so famous they can’t go anywhere without drawing attention, and you have a recipe for a couple that really needs a break. This is exactly what Kardashian and West started to love about Wyoming. They could escape from that hustle and bustle and really enjoy their lives and one another.

“It is just so chill and you can just do absolutely nothing. I bring no makeup and just my sweats and hang out,” Kardashian explained. Wyoming doesn’t only offer this oasis of calm to celebrities. Plenty of everyday Americans find the same charms there.

The national parks in Wyoming are amazing

Wyoming is home to not one but two of the country’s best national parks. Grand Teton National Park offers breathtaking views of the mountains and the opportunity to float on the gorgeous Snake River. With plenty of wildlife — including moose and grizzly bears — the Park offers a taste of the great outdoors that many people don’t get to glimpse in their typical suburban or urban lives.

In addition, Wyoming is home to Yellowstone National Park, arguably one of the most famous parks in the entire world. While offering plenty of hiking trails and other outdoorsy experiences, it also has the unique distinction of being home to the famous geyser Old Faithful. This geyser bursts forth from the ground approximately every 90 minutes, shooting boiling water nearly 200 feet into the air!

There are also cities in Wyoming

Of course, the most common images of Wyoming are rustic, rural settings, but the state is actually home to some very cool cities that make for great tourist stops. Jackson Hole is one of the most famous places to visit. This resort town offers plenty of delicious local food options as well as fun activities like skiing and a spa.

Another great activity that tourists love is ranch visits. Eaton’s Ranch is a famous dude ranch in Wyoming that offers glimpses into history as well as stunning views of the Bighorn Mountains. Families will find plenty to do at any time of the year including swimming and, of course, eating some amazing ranch food.

While Wyoming might not be most people’s first thought when they’re planning a fun vacation, the chance to get away from it all and relax in peace is definitely near the top of many people’s lists. As Kardashian and West have illustrated, Wyoming is a great place to do exactly that!
