Kim Kardashian’s rise to fame

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Kim Kardashian was known in the Southern California social scene.

While she and her family were not as massively famous as they are now, she was known both because of her father’s, Rob Kardashian’s, involvement in the infamous OJ Simpson case, and for her close friendship with socialite Paris Hilton.

However, 2007 would mark a massive change for Kim and the entire Kardashian-Jenner family, with the leak of Kim Kardashian’s sex tape and subsequent reality TV show about the family, Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

This TV show became a massive hit, and launched the Kardashians to stardom. It also launched a large amount of memes – Kim Kardashian’s ugly crying face, “Kim, there’s people that are dying,” and “Don’t be f*cking rude!” among the most iconic.

Even though the show has been criticized for being vapid and pointless, it has made an impact on the internet and meme culture.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians changed things for the entire family, and since its premiere, Kim Kardashian’s life has changed quite a bit. She started taking more and more endorsement deals, which helped build her wealth, and continued to work in fashion with products including a fragrance line and some controversial shapewear.

She also built even more fame through social media, and as of October 2020 she has 190 million Instagram followers.

Her personal life has also changed. The infamous marriage to Kris Humphries began and ended in 2011. Shortly after, she began dating rapper Kanye West, forming a celebrity power couple dubbed “Kimye.”

In 2014, the couple married, and despite drama and rumors surrounding them, they have stayed together since. Throughout the 2010s Kim and Kanye had four children, and Kim Kardashian spoke publicly about her health struggles.

She’s also gotten political, and become involved in criminal justice reform, including speaking to the president to push pardons for minor drug offenses.

It’s clear: Kim Kardashian’s life has changed a lot in the past decade.

The 30th birthday freak-out

Kim Kardashian turned 30 in October 2010. On her reality show, she ended up having a meltdown over. At the time, many people thought it was a bit ridiculous.

Fans on Reddit discussed this moment and their feelings around it and some expressed these sentiments.

“I’m over here laughing at you guys freaking out about being in your 20s. It’s okay, you’ll all get where you need to be when you are meant to. I’m over 40 and trust me, life only gets better as you get older 😉”

However, other fans were sympathetic to Kim, and pointed out that her freak-out could have been about more than just getting older.

“I think she was freaking out about turning 30 because she thought she would have been married by then and have children. The fact that she didn’t made her scared about aging. Now that she has a husband and 4 beautiful kids, I don’t think she’s as scared of getting older.”

And it does seem like Kim Kardashian has taken her 40th birthday with more grace. The family’s party involved a lot of reminiscing about the past, and aired as a special on Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Despite one’s opinion on the family, it’s clear: Kim Kardashian has grown and matured a lot since her initial rise to stardom.
