Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Reveal Favorite Celebrity House Guest, Favorite Rooms in Their Dream Home
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have taken fans inside their gorgeous home for the March 2020 issue of Architectural Digest — and a video where the two quiz each other about their home is so revealing. Find out their favorite rooms (Kardashian loves her bathroom lighting, for example), their favorite celebrity house guest, and get the scoop on how they transformed the house entirely.
Kardashian and West share the backstory of their dream home
Kardashian and West purchased the Los Angeles home in 2014, as Kardashian explained: “We passed by this incredibly extravagant house while strolling through the neighborhood. I’d just had North, and we were doing a lot of walking so I could work off some of the baby fat. I didn’t really know Kanye’s style at that point, but I thought the house was perfection. Kanye was less enthusiastic. He said, ‘It’s workable.’”
In their Design Quiz video for the magazine, Kardashian shared more about the story behind their dream home, explaining they each had a home that was “not that family-ish” and they discovered her “dream home” during a walk. West said “I like it,” which is high praise from the rapper “because he doesn’t really like anything,” according to Kardashian. He added, “That’s my specialty, not liking stuff.”
“I knew that it was going to be our dream home and that he was going to fully redo it and it was going to be likeable,” Kardashian shared.
West also explained how he and Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt came to collaborate on the home, telling the magazine: “When I saw the kind of work he was doing, I thought, This man could design Batman’s house. I had to work with him. It was a coup to get Axel to come to Calabasas to redo a McMansion, which is essentially what the house was.”
They revealed their favorite rooms
Kardashian and West delved into some fun home questions, like the soundtrack for their house, with Kardashian naming Jesus Is King as the “vibe.”
An all-important question about which room has the best light for selfies came up, with Kardashian naming the theater room “because I like a dark room and I like to use a flash.”
Kardashian’s favorite thing about their bathroom is taking selfies in it because “the lighting in the bathroom is so good that it smooths out all cellulite… the whole ceiling is one giant light.” She shared how it really sets the tone for her day, as she explained, “I start my day off getting in the shower feeling so good about myself,” but when she goes in the closet to get dressed, she “realizes it just was the lighting.”
West also counts the bathroom among his favorite rooms, sharing, “I love how the whole side of the bathroom is just blown out.”
Additionally, one of the favorite things that West and Vervoordt designed was a hallway, as West shared, “we pushed it to minimize it and make it as strong as possible and as simple as possible.”
Bonus fun fact: Kardashian has never used their pool! “Can you believe that?,” she said as West looked stunned. She added, “But I love our pool,” as she shred that the pool stairs is the place “all the babies sit on.”
Their fave house guest is a big celebrity
When West was asked about his favorite house guest, the two agreed: Dave Chappelle.
Kardashian shared, “I love when Dave comes over,” and West chimed in, “but he ain’t gonna put his feet on our couch, I’ll tell you that!”
