For the last 12 years, Kim Kardashian West has been the star of one of the most popular reality shows of all time, Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Though the series skyrocketed the media personality’s fame to new heights, it actually wasn’t the first reality show she appeared on back in the day.

As a child, Kardashian West dreamed of one day becoming a famous reality star.

“When I was like 11, 12 years old and The Real World came out, I told my best friend, ‘Oh I need to be on a reality show,'” she told Weathsimple magazine in 2018. “I was like, ‘We’re going to sign up for The Real World.‘ And she was like, ‘Okay, well I’m not, but I’ll help you make your audition tape.’ And I was like, that’s it.”

Though she had a celebrity vision for herself at a young age, Kardashian West knew that becoming a big star wouldn’t happen overnight. Since both her parents stressed the importance of working for the things you want, she was prepared to put in the effort to achieve her dreams.

After working various jobs throughout her teens, Kardashian West landed the opportunity to be longtime friend, Paris Hilton’s, stylist and part-time closet organizer in the early 2000s.

While working for Hilton, Kardashian got her first taste of show business as she made several appearances on the hotel heiress’s show, The Simple Life, from 2003-2006.

‘KUWTK’ aired in 2007

After working as Hilton’s closet organizer, Kardashian West began collaborating with producers to create a show centered around her family — an idea momager Kris Jenner originally pitched.

It wasn’t long before Ryan Seacrest decided to develop the idea, and in August 2007, it was announced that the Kardashian and Jenner families would star in a yet-to-be-titled reality show on E! described as a “new non-scripted family sitcom.”

In October of that year, Keeping Up With the Kardashians aired on E! and has since made the KarJenners one of the most famous families in the world.

So far, there have been 18 seasons of KUWTK with a whopping 256 episodes and five specials having aired over the years. And from the looks of things, the KarJenners show no sign of stopping with season 19 due to premiere in September 2020.

Kim Kardashian West tries to live a more private life

Thanks to KUWTK, Kardashian West’s dream of becoming a reality star came true, and now, she’s one of the highest-paid and most famous television personalities in the industry.

But over the years, the KKW Beauty mogul’s proven that she’s much more than just a reality star. In addition to starring on the show, Kardashian West is also the owner of cosmetics, fragrance, and shapewear lines, a social media maven, and a mother of four.

She’s also working toward becoming a lawyer by doing a four-year law apprenticeship.

Though she’s finally living the life she’s always wanted, Kardashian West still comes across the downsides of fame every now and again.

One incident that completely changed her perception about living life in the public eye was when she was robbed at gunpoint in 2016.

Since that traumatic experience, the reality star has tried to keep things more private, while still letting her fans and followers into her life.

“I never say my whereabouts. And if I do, I make sure there is tons of security outside,” she explained to Weathsimple magazine. “I will do something, save it, and then post it when I leave. I think I really attribute that experience that I had in Paris to helping me shut down and completely not worry about the digital world and live in the moment and at home and with my kids and my family and my husband.”
