Kim Kardashian West Completely Freaked out When She Found out She Was Pregnant With North West
Since most of the world was introduced to her in 2007 when Keeping Up with the Kardashians first premiered, Kim Kardashian West has made it no secret that she wanted kids and a family. After ending things with her long-term boyfriend, Reggie Bush, the reality starlet found herself desperately seeking her happily ever after. She tried to make that work with NBA star, Kris Humphries. Yet, they weren’t meant to be.
However, in 2011, when she began getting romantic with her good friend, rapper, Kanye West, it appeared that the Skims mogul found her match. The pair jumped into a whirlwind relationship and after less than a year of dating, Kardashian West’s dream came true.
She discovered that she was pregnant with her first child. However, though the starlet was excited about welcoming a child into the world. Finding out she was pregnant completely freaked her out.
Kim Kardashian West’s pregnancies were extremely difficult
The KKW Beauty founder shares four children with her husband, Kanye West. North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm are all adorable mini-replicas of the influencer and rapper. Though Kardashian West was able to carry North and Saint to term, she and West chose to use a surrogate for Chicago and Psalm due to the starlet’s extensive pregnancy complications.
“When I was pregnant with my daughter North, I had a condition called preeclampsia or toxemia, which is basically when the mom’s organs start to shut down,” Kardashian shared in a video on her Instagram.“The only way to get rid of that is to deliver the baby. At 34 and a half weeks, I had to go into emergency labor — they induced me. North was 4 pounds. She was almost six weeks early.”
Though Kardashian West was able to get pregnant with her son Saint, the issues she had in her first pregnancy persisted. “I asked my doctors, ‘Can I do it one more time?’ And they were like, ‘We won’t even put an embryo in you — that would be like malpractice,” she shared.
Kim Kardashian West feared she was having a miscarriage when she was pregnant with North
Kardashian West’s pregnancy with North was particularly challenging. Not only was she teased and humiliated in the press due to her appearance, but she also feared she had suffered a miscarriage at one point.
The KKW Fragrance CEO was terrified after she began experiencing heavy bleeding and terrible pain. “I thought I had a miscarriage because I was really heavily bleeding and in so much pain in Miami,” she on Laura Wasser’s All’s Fair podcast. “I went in because you have to go in and do a [dilation and curettage] to clean out the miscarriage… My doctor said, ‘Come in the morning. We’ll do it Thanksgiving night so no one will see you.’ I went in and there was no heartbeat and he said, ‘You had a miscarriage.’”
However, when Kardashian West went in on Thanksgiving she got some different news. “He said ‘There’s a heartbeat,’” she explained. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is a sign, it’s Thanksgiving morning.’”

From the time she discovered her pregnancy with North, Kardashian West’s head was in a tailspin. Though motherhood was always something she wanted, she was terrified about the unknown. For her husband’s 43rd birthday she shared a throwback photo of them shortly after she found out she was pregnant.
“Fun fact about this pic,” Kim wrote, “I just found out I was pregnant with North and made Kanye fly to London for my Kardashian Kollection appearance bc I was freaking out! He took me out to Hakkassan and then Haagen Daz to make me feel better.”
