The 58th Baeksang Awards occurred on May 6 and honored some of the industry’s most talented rising and veteran actors. The award show also titled some of the year’s best movies and dramas in their respective categories. This year, Lee Junho made history as the first idol to win the Best Actor Award for his K-drama. The winners of the 58th Baeksang Awards also include Twenty-Five Twenty-One star Kim Tae-ri and more.

Kim Tae-ri was a fan favorite to win after her nomination for Best Actress in a drama series. She was nominated for her role in the Netflix and tvN K-drama Twenty-Five Twenty-One as Na Hee-do. The K-drama was a grand success about first loves and friendships with an emotional finale. Kim took home the win in the category and won the TikTok Popularity award.

2PM’s Lee Junho has made a name for himself as an actor, having won previous awards for his role in The Red Sleeve. His leading role in the historical romance K-drama blew away fans with his grit, determination, and impressive display of emotions on-screen. Lee becomes the first active idol to win the Best Actor award in a drama series at the 58th Baeksang Awards. He also won the TikTok Popularity award.

A congratulation is in order for Cho Hyun-jul from the hit military K-drama D.P. The actor took home the win for Best Supporting Actor in a drama series, with his co-star Koo Kyo-hwan taking home Best New Actor. For the title of Best New Actress in a TV series, the honor went to Kim Hye-joon from the crime K-drama Inspector Koo.

Kim Shin-rok, who starred in Netflix’s Hellbound, was awarded Best Supporting Actress in a drama series.

‘Squid Game’ adds more trophies to its long list of wins at the 58th Baeksang Awards

With Squid Game becoming the most successful K-drama in history, it was bound to win a few trophies. After winning the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and more, the 58th Baeksang Awards was the cherry on top.

According to Forbes, the K-drama won three awards. Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk was honored with the Best Director award. Hwang accepted the award for Best Technical Achievement in TV on behalf of Jung Jae-il.  

Squid Game also took home the most coveted award of the night. The list of wins also included the Daesang or Grand Prize. Besides Squid Game, the legal K-drama Juvenile Justice won the award for Best TV script by Kim Min-suk. D.P. took home the award for Best Drama.

‘King the Land’: Lee Junho to Star Alongside YoonA in Rom-Com K-Drama

While eyes were on what K-dramas would take home a trophy, the 58th Baeksang Awards also honor achievements in movies. Actor Sol Kyung-gu won the award for Best Actor in a movie for his role in Kingmaker: The Fox of the Election. His co-star Jo Woo-jin also won for Best Supporting Actor. Byun Sung-hyun also won for Best Film Director.

The Best Supporting Actress award went to Lee Soo-kyung for The Miracle: Letters to the President. The Best New Actress for a film was given to Lee Yoo-mi for Young Adult Matters. Best New Actor in a film award went to Lee Hong-nae for Hot Blooded. Director and actor Jo Eun-ji was honored with the Best New Film Director award for Perhaps Love.
