Things Kirby fans probably didn’t think they’d see today: the little pink blob swallowing a car whole. The February Nintendo Direct featured a new trailer for the upcoming Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which focused on a new ability called Mouthful Mode. With this feature, players can swallow objects and gain new powers to traverse the lands. Check out the details below.

New ‘Kirby and the Forgotten Land’ trailer shows Kirby’s newest ability, Mouthful Mode

The trailer opens with a cutscene of Kirby stepping into an abandoned building. A rusty car sits in the corner, where enemies hide and ambush the hero. Kirby uses his classic inhale ability to swallow them up, but he takes the car with them! Surprisingly, the entire vehicle fits inside his body, and he molds himself to the shape of the car.

According to the trailer, this is just one example of the new Mouthful Mode available in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. When Kirby inhales a car, he can drive along paths at full speed to take out enemies.

And that’s only one example of Mouthful Mode at work. The video also shows Kirby inhaling a vending machine, which lets him shoot cans at enemies. By inhaling a traffic cone, he can ground pound on items to pierce through them.

The trailer also features “scissor-lift mouth,” “light-bulb mouth,” “ring mouth,” and “arch mouth,” each designed to help him get around complex spaces. Kirby can even inhale water balloons to help him clean up spills around town.

Kirby can evolve his copy abilities to gain more power

In addition to Mouthful Mode, the trailer reveals that Kirby will be able to upgrade his copy abilities. As longtime fans may recall, one of the pink blob’s signature moves is to inhale enemies and take on their abilities, such as inhaling swordsmen to use their weapons.

In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Kirby can visit the weapon shop at Waddle Dee Town to “evolve” his copy abilities. Upgrading his sword ability, for example, gives Kirby a bigger sword for greater range in his attacks. According to the trailer, Kirby’s appearance will also change with upgrades “to make him even more powerful.”
