‘KUWTK’ is airing its final season

In September 2020, Kim Kardashian West announced that KUWTK would end after 20 seasons in 2021.

Though the show has been a hit series since it premiered in 2007, Kardashian West and the rest of the Kardashian family decided that it was time to close this chapter in their lives.

“This was a dream of all of ours. We never imagined we would get onto season two. Now we’re on 20,” she told Grazia magazine in October 2020.

“Sometimes we just need a break. It’s really simple. We just need a minute to regroup. You know, we haven’t had a break for 14 years,” the SKIMS founder continued. “We’ve gone in filming a season, then a spin off and I think there’s no other way to say it other than, we just live such big lives. And we have kids now. And they need us.”

Currently, KUWTK is airing its final season on E!, with the series finale set to premiere this summer.

Kourtney Kardashian was ready to move on from ‘KUWTK’

Though some members of the Kardashian bunch were on the fence about ending the show after 20 seasons, Kourtney Kardashian decided to move on from the hit series long before the family came to the consensus to pull the plug.

In 2019, the Poosh founder revealed to Entertainment Tonight that she would be taking a step back from KUWTK to focus on her children and career ventures.

“I just decided to spend more time as a mom and put more of my energy there,” she explained to ET’s Keltie Knight before reassuring, “But I’m not saying goodbye.”

Kardashian later revealed that KUWTK‘s “toxic” environment and the lack of privacy were why she didn’t want to be a part of it anymore.

“I have been filming the show non-stop for 14 years… I was feeling unfulfilled and it became a toxic environment for me to continue to have it occupy as much of my life as it was,” she said during her July/August 2020 cover interview for Vogue Arabia. “Privacy is something I have come to value and finding that balance of private moments with being on a reality show is hard.”

She continued, “People have this misconception that I don’t want to work, which isn’t true. I am following my happiness and putting my energy into that which makes me happy.”

Kourtney Kardashian finds it ‘weird’ that she has so much free time now

Now that KUWTK has wrapped filming, Kardashian has the freedom to live life the way she wants without cameras following her every move.

Though she has a lot more free time nowadays to enjoy the things that interest her, the mother of three admits that life without her family’s show is a bit “weird.”

While appearing on the latest episode of TikTok star Addison Rae’s Spotify podcast, That Was Fun? With Addison and Sheri, Kardashian revealed that she isn’t used to having so much downtime.

“It’s so crazy. I’ve really been enjoying the time off. Sometimes, it’s weird. I’m like, ‘What do I do today?’ I have an abundance of things to do, but it’s strange that my days used to be booked from the second I got up to drop my kids at school.” she told Rae.

Although her days are still pretty eventful, Kardashian admits that staying busy has been quite a challenge since the show ended.

“The whole day would be full until dinner time usually. So now, I’m in charge of being responsible almost for getting things done,” she continued. “That’s been hard. I need to schedule things into my day to really get things done.”

While getting used to life without KUWTK will come in time, Kardashian has already started to make the most out of her new normal.

“I feel like I’ve finally gotten to the place where I can balance being a mom and working,” she said during a March 2020 episode of E!’s In the Room. “I’ve always done both, obviously, but it used to be where I would work a lot more. And so I’ve really shifted my focus.”
