With Keeping Up with the Kardashians finally ending, the Kardashian sisters have to figure out their new relationship with fame, the public, and their own personas. While many people agreed that it was time for the long-running reality show to come to an end, some are finding they actually miss the family and their often-scripted antics. Perhaps feeling the pressure of wanting to be seen by fans but not having the polished outlet of a well-produced reality TV series for it, Kourtney Kardashian recently took to Instagram with a slew of selfies that raised some eyebrows. Just how many selfies is too many?

Kourtney Kardashian has not had a clear path for what her life of fame should look like without the structured reality TV series. Founding the lifestyle website Poosh helped establish the tone of her work going forward, but the site has often been at the center of controversy and mockery, and it doesn’t seem to provide quite the platform Kardashian had hoped.

Meanwhile, Kardashian was certainly showing signs of being over the reality TV star life. As her children got older, she wanted less and less time in the spotlight, and her own personal relationship woes were constantly taking center stage. As someone whose entire fame is wrapped up in showing off her personal life, however, it’s difficult to find the line between privacy and publicity, and it’s not clear that Kardashian knows exactly where she wants to draw those boundaries.

Kourtney Kardashian recently drew attention for a barrage of Instagram selfies

With KUWTK complete, the most immediate outlet the Kardashians have for sharing their lives with their fans is social media. The family has been praised — even by those who otherwise aren’t really fans — for their keen ability to navigate social media platforms for their own gain. While there have been scandals involving their racial appropriation or over-reliance on editing, the sisters have for the most part been held up as experts at social media.

That’s all the more reason that fans were left scratching their heads when Kourtney Kardashian recently took to Instagram to post not one, not three, not five, but seven selfies in one post.

Now, it’s not like fans of the Kardashians can really complain about selfies. The family’s entire empire is built on using themselves as the canvas for promotion of various products and even just the promotion of their lifestyle in a more ephemeral way. Their appearance is deeply entwined in their success, and Kardashian knows that showing images of herself is part of what keeps her connected to fans.

Still, seven selfies in a single post seems like overkill, and fans are wondering what Kardashian was thinking.

The post full of Kardashian’s face was noteworthy enough to drive fans to Reddit to discuss it. The original poster simply posted a screenshot of the Instagram post, a carousel-style picture set that allowed viewers to scroll through multiple shots of Kardashian’s face from various angles. Clad in a leopard-print bikini top and with her long hair flowing over her shoulders, Kardashian purses her lips as she leans out of a window for the seven pics.

One fan pointed out that it was just too much: “I get that she was feeling herself but she should have stopped at 1-2 pics. 3 at most lol.”

Another came to Kardashian’s defense: “To be fair, if I looked like her, I’d be posting selfies 24/7.”

Another subtly suggested that perhaps Kardashian was under the influence when she took the shots. “This is what my camera roll ends up looking like after four glasses of red wine,” the fan wrote.
