Most people with a passing awareness of Keeping Up With the Kardashians can tell you that the focus of the long-running reality TV show is Kris Jenner and her five daughters.

What started more than a decade ago as something of an experiment in entertainment has grown into a force all its own, and even those who are no fans of either the reality TV genre or the Kardashian family can’t help but know about the pop culture phenomenon.

What those who are less tuned in to the series might not know is that it has also featured plenty of other individuals over the years. From boyfriends to besties, there is an entire constellation of guest stars who have grown their fame by appearing on the series.

One of those people is Malika Haqq, best friend to Khloe Kardashian. Fans are less than impressed with what she adds to the show.

‘KUWTK’ has produced an enormous amount of material

Love it or hate it, you have to admit that KUWTK has produced an impressive amount of footage. The original series has been on the air since 2006 and is now in its 18th season. That means there have been more than 200 episodes of the family’s lavish lifestyle broadcast for the world to see.

As the family has grown and changed over the years, the show has struggled to find its focus, and fans are speculating that it won’t last much longer, but such cancellation rumors have swirled before, and yet the series soldiers on.

Even if it is canceled, there will almost certainly be a spin-off to take its place. In fact, the show has already produced several spin-off series. Some of these follow specific family members on their trips to different fashionable cities.

Others, such as Khloe and Lamar, focus on a particular relationship from the famous family and dig deeper into their personal lives. Kris Jenner, who is widely seen to be the driving force behind the reality series’ success, reportedly orchestrates the connections between the shows to encourage fans to watch them all in order to piece together a larger story.

Friends and lovers often guest star

Obviously, KUWTK features the core family members — Kris Jenner and her daughters Kourtney, Khloé, and Kim Kardashian and Kendall and Kylie Jenner. In addition, the show has featured Kris Jenner’s former spouse Caitlyn Jenner as well as the lovers and spouses of the daughters.

Scott Disick, Kourtney Kardashian’s ex and the father of her children, is a regular cast member. Kanye West, Kim Kardashian’s husband, also appears frequently.

Plenty of other people have made regular appearances on the series. Friends of the cast members have often had recurring roles over the years. Jonathan Cheban, for example, is a close friend of Kim Kardashian’s and has appeared in 27 episodes.

Many other recurring guests help demonstrate the type of lavish lifestyle the Kardashian-Jenners live. Stephanie Shepherd, Kim Kardashian’s former assistant, appeared in 38 episodes.

Malika Haqq is a close friend of Khloe Kardashian’s who has appeared in 30 episodes on the show. She also made a lot of headlines surrounding her pregnancy in early 2020. In particular, fans were stunned when Haqq announced her decision to get surgery for a post-baby “makeover” before she even delivered the baby.

She made the announcement in a post with a picture of her standing next to the surgeon who would be responsible for this work.

Now fans of the show are criticizing Haqq for a different reason. In a Reddit thread discussing Haqq’s appearance on the show, the original poster explains that they “can’t shake the idea that it seems like Malika just hangs around Khloe to have access to a lifestyle that she might not be able to otherwise ( financially).”

Others weighed in with criticisms of Haqq’s friendship with Kardashian. “I think she’s super possessive and a little obsessed with Khloe wanting to be her only friend who knows the most about her and whatever,” one fan wrote.

Some, however, saw the moments that others were using against Haqq as a sign of her friendship: “I don’t think she uses Khloe at all. I think she’s really that great friend, hence her jealous moments in the show.”
